bben46
Mods are a matter of taste. What one player likes another might hate. The most popular are in the top 100 list. But read the read me of each one before you decide if it is for you. Then install only ONE mod at a time, test it in your game to be sure it works. if there is a problem get it fixed or remove the mod before adding any more. There are some programs that are needed first, these are not really mods but utility programs that make working with mods easier and in some cases possible. get them and install them as you will need them. OBSE, Oblivion Script Extender. This program adds to the games ability to work with mods. It makes thing possible the original game maker never considered. Also, many complex mods will not work without it, and if you have one of those mods installed and do not use it the game will crash immediately. Be sure to read the instructions on how to install and use it. Get it here: http://obse.silverlock.org/ OBMM, Oblivion Mod Manager. This utility can be used to change the order your mods load when you start playing. (among lots of other features) This can be important in whether a mod works properly or not. It also works very well with OBSE. Again be sure to read the instructions for loading and the part of the instructions on changing load order and launching Oblivion from OBMM. There is much in the instructions that is intended for a more advanced user. Those two features are what you need to get started. When you need the other features, go back and read up on them then. Get it here: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmm_download.html - Download and use the self installer to install. There are other helpful utility programs, and as you progress you will find you need some of the others. But these two are nearly indispensable. roquefort
What are some good mods to start off with? :unsure:Hard to say definitely as everyone has there own idea of how they want to experience the game. My first installed mod was a companion, as I found travelling around mostly deserted roads could get lonesome. If you don't have them, you should get and install the utility progs OBMM (Mod Manager) & OBSE (Script Extender), as many mods need these, or at least are better managed with them installed. If you want more specific suggestions I'd say start with mods that improve the look of the game, such as HG EyeCandy Body and/or the Unique Landscapes Compilation OMOD (can be laggy though on slower machines), or Natural Environments. These are only my own personal must-haves though. EDIT: Trumped by bben46 :D
