Random crashes galore

Hi there,

 

I've recently begun a new install of Oblivion and have been looking forward to playing it heavily modded. I'm not new to mod installation, but I'm no expert either.

 

I've followed (to the best of my ability) the guide posted here: www.somethingfornobody.com/wiki/index.php?title=Oblivion

 

I am currently in the section entitled "Immersion Mods" and the last mod I installed is Reneer's Guard Overhaul (i.e. I have followed the guide up to that point, but have not yet installed Elsweyr Anequina, Cava Obscura, and beyond).

 

I have been diligent throughout the process about archive invalidation using OBMM, altering the load order with BOSS, and rebuilding the Wrye Bash Bashed Patch. Following the instructions on that page, I have frequently started up a new game to see if it loads up, and it has without issue.

 

After the latest install, though, I decided to do a little running around rather than just load up the game to see if it loads. Here's where the problems start.

 

First off, I can't approach Cheydinhal without the game crashing. After doing a little Goggle searching on that topic, i found that it was prudent to see if I could still approach other cities, so for my next run I headed for Bruma. On the way, I saved often, and had a few crashes. However, upon reloading a game, I wouldn't crash in the same place twice. This suggests to me that some crashes are due to faulty spawns of some sort.

 

I eventually made it to Bruma and entered without problem (Open Cities). However, when I tried to go into the stable building outside the Bruma gate, the game crashed immediately.

 

That's where I am right now. I'm really looking forward to getting a game going, but I'm just not expert enough with this to know if there's anything in particular that's wrong with my install so far (I've added a few things aliong the way that aren't on that guide). So that's when I decided to post ehre and see if I couldn't petition the Oblivion Modding Gurus for their assistance in figuring out my issues.

edit: I've tried disabling Open Cities (and all the OC compatibility patches) and it seems to let me into the cities SOMETIMES. If I fast travel to a stable and just go right up to the gate and try to enter, I crash. However, if I SAVE before trying to enter, then after the crash when i reload and try to enter again, I enter the city just fine.
