As for those silver skies, it used to happen to me when the texture of skies was too highres like 2048x2048. So, I just resized the those textures to 1024x1024. Alternatively, you could delete those textures with sky prefixes in texture folder. Finally regarding those flashing, I too have that. It could be reduced to certain extent by reducing the game's screen resolution, but not eliminated. Looking at your problems, I see that you have a bit slow system, right? EDIT: This is a great program to optimize textures and it helps with those flashings too, if you had installed high res texture replacers.
