traplord2296
First time making a mod followed a few tutorials on how to add custom music and when i get to the step where i upload to bethesda the file ends up being 16Kb after uploaded and nothing works. Ive also tried to make a archive but i keep getting an error and for the life of me cant figure out where the log is to check it. Would attach images to show my file structure but apparently a picture is to big to attach lol
anjenthedog
1) fyi I use Paint dot Net to resize and compress snapshots to the jpg format, for posting to "wherever". If done right, it both keeps you within a given site's max file size restrictions for direct upload files (ie not a hosted link), AND it results in reduced bandwidth on the net as a whole, both the initial upload as well as the multitude of background downloads from people seeing the post for jpg compression I usually set it to "87%" or close to that, since apparently for normal web traffic, that's the cutoff for where details are lost to the human eye. resizing a ~2kx 1K image to an 800x400 , plus compressing can take a large (~2M source) filesize image source and drop it down into the 200-300 K range... which 99 times out of a hundred, is more than sufficient in terms of visual quality for posting to a forum topic. Of course I don't mean uploads to photo contests... 2) which music? The "embedded" music that normally plays in the background until a combat event turns it off? Or a "user radio"? traplord2296
Thank you for the info on the compressing and I’m adding tracks to the the premade playlists aka background music. Also will add pictures in a minute here. Edited July 27, 2023 by traplord2296
anjenthedog
np. BTW, cropping to area-of-focus also helps to reduce your final file size too, so keep that in mind if you are ever running up against a hard threshold (I've posted at sites with max filesize as low as 100K)... Not that it matters in this situation, but all your snapshots could technically be about half the file size they are right now, if not even smaller, by cropping out unimportant stuff, ie not germane to the subject. For instance, suppose you were concerned about some piece of armor having some issue and wanted to post s query about it. You don't have to upload an image of the entire player, (and the castle nearby, and al the trees, and the mountain) just the area of concern that includes the armor you need help with... Cropping and image resizing (as well as using Paint dot Net or another app that allows compression) is your friend I’m adding tracks to the the premade playlists aka background music Ah...well, unfortunately I have no experience fiddling with the background music ( I use a player) and can't help you with that one, but in any case, now you know how to deal with the photo upload threshold, so at least you can post them (or reduced file size versions of them) and anyone who *can* help with that will have more info provided by those images ...one thing I did notice in the first image was that there were several files labeled generically 1.xwm, 2.xwm, 3.xwm, etc. That seems similar to the music player I use, (HaloFarm Radio "restored") which requires files to be named ~similarly. (Track 1.xwm, Track 2.xwm, ...) You can't just add "some song name" to its player userable folders or it will simply ignore it/them. They have to be re-named in the format the player expects.... << My observation might be a red herring for the background music, not sure, but fwiw...
