Crazzee
I was attempting to mod my copy of Oblivion(bought through Steam) http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4278But the only file I seemed to have that was required for the mod was "Textures." I also didn't have the Oblivion.ini file that I was supposed to change around, so I didn't try the mod out at all. Any of you know what to do? EDIT: Okay, I do have the .ini, but I don't have the few other files I need for it.
bben46
When you extract the zipped file into the Oblivion/data folder, it will create the folders you don't have that it needs and place the files in them. When it warns about overwriting answer yes, it doesn't really overwrite anything, it appends to the existing files. The oblivion.ini you need is NOT the one in the Oblivion folder, but another one found in the C:\documents and settings\your name\your documents\your games\Oblivion folder (this is the XP path, it's a little different for vista) I'm not sure about steam, but if it is like the D2D downloadable version you are going to have problems. First, you have to go to steam instead of Bethesda for any updates and patches. Then due to a different protection scheme, many programs like OBSE will not work. And OBSE is required for many mods. Then when (not if but when) you need to reinstall, you may not be able to without paying again. hint, save the downloaded zip after you install. Go on the internet and find a used disk for about US $10. or new for US $20 Then you can do whatever you want with mods. A friend found a disk at a yard sale for US $1. No box or books, just the disk. Check flea markets and second hand places too.
rakkar
I'm quite sure you don't have to pay again when you have to reinstall, but I agree, I bought oblivion (new, not second-hand) for 10 Euro, which is about $15, so if you want mods, you better buy a disc

I treat it now with all the reverence that is due to the elder scroll series. Is it weird to have a shrine? I always pray to the modding gods anyway... If I'm correct about what I've read about Steam, once you've bought a game, you own the game and you can use the game on as many computers as you like. All you need is Steam installed on each PC and your account info. Steam will then re-download the game and you're ready to play. I can't say what effect Steam would have on OBSE though. Maybe someone should test that. EDIT: I just read a post where a steam user has OBSE working on his copy of Oblivion so it seems that OBSE works with Oblivion from Steam.http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showto...p;#entry1112304
