Need Suggestions for Tools and Tutorials for Creating New Mods and Altering Existing Mods?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Witcher enthusiasts and seasoned modders,

I'm about to embark on my first modding journey with an ambitious project - transforming Geralt into my DND character, Rain, in The Witcher 3. I'm still contemplating whether to mod an older version of Witcher 3 or the next-gen one. What do you think and why? I think I want to do Next Gen if I can.

While I'm a newcomer to modding, I have a background in digital animation and some experience with scripting, so I'm no stranger to complex projects. I'm excited to learn and immerse myself in this endeavor.

Here's a summary of what I hope to accomplish:

  • Rework Geralt's Appearance to match Rain's

  • Overhaul Weaponry to fit Rain's preference for great swords

  • Boost Athletic Abilities to reflect Rain's agility and spryness

  • Redesign certain abilities and signs

  • Transform Geralt's voice to sound smoother and more youthful

  • Upgrade Meditation Animation with a custom sequence

  • Redesign Roach to resemble Rain's horse, Gale

  • Create a Familiar, a bat-stoat hybrid named Shade

Considering the breadth and depth of these tasks, I'm on the hunt for the best tools and resources that can assist me. I'd greatly appreciate recommendations for:

  • Modding tools that are beginner-friendly but don't compromise on advanced features

  • Video tutorials or guides that offer a comprehensive introduction to Witcher 3 modding

  • Specific resources for character modeling and texturing, animation modification, voice-over alteration, and scripting for game mods

I did come across this tutorial on YouTube (https://youtu.be/B3KqeAUP3P0), but it's seven years old now, and I'm unsure if the same tools and techniques would apply to the most recent versions [next-gen] of the game. If anyone knows whether this is still relevant or if there are more up-to-date video tutorials, I'd love to know.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm thrilled to dive into this project and become part of the Witcher modding community. Thanks a ton in advance!
