Kevin Woodman
I can make icons, but the only program i have installed that can use TGA files is Ulead PhotoImpact, but it won't save them with objects. If i open one it will show the dotted outline saved into the file but when i save it it doesn't support object saving with this format. So my icons end up being square solid pics with a little image in the middle instead of the professional looking ones everyone else uses.(makes it easier to find when it's enchanted though) What program would be recommended for this? Also it doesn't support dds files, what could i get to access those? heck i might actually have one somewhere, if i knew which one to look for. luckylucifer
Well, I simply clicked on the file to try and open it, windows searched the net for the type of program to use for it and this is what ive found. I hope it helps. Here are programs that can open .dds files.I can say that Ive used IrfanView before but not for .dds.IrfanViewSlowViewand a site here for the Microsoft DirectX Texture Tool but the link didnt work for me.Microsoft DirectX Texture Tool "The Microsoft DirectDraw Surface (DDS) file format is used to store textures and cubic environment maps, both with and without mipmap levels. This format can store uncompressed and compressed pixel formats, and is the preferred file format for storing DXTn compressed data. This file format is supported by the Microsoft DirectX Texture tool (DXTex Tool), as well as some third party tools, and by the Direct3D extensions (D3DX) library." I can recommend Adobe Photoshop 5 and Coral Photopaint as I use them, they open .Tga's.
Kevin Woodman
Thanks for the recomendations, it helps narrow down the search. I just found a program that converts dds to tga and other formats, HERE, but haven't tried it yet. i'll try the other programs, it saves time just to be able to work with a file instead of having to convert it back and forth. As far as all the directdraw stuff goes, that was over my head, but i'm learning, that helps explain it a little better.
luckylucifer
Just one last effort on my behalf, if you havnt solved it out here is a link for an icon creation tutorial. How to make icons with GIMP
Kevin Woodman
Thanx, the GIMP is pretty cool. I always wondered how people made screenshots in the TESCS, I'm sure there are other ways but this one is free, easy to use, and powerful. And I rummaged through my CDs and found i had Adobe Photoshop7, But now someone tells me the older one was better, I guess a matter of opinion and preference, I'm not used to the old one so the new one shouldn't bother me. The link for the texture tool didn't work for me either. :) :cool2:
