Failed to load the main menu from the current game mod.

Hi, I tried installing a few mods through Vortex, and I started getting this message when trying to start the game. "Failed to load the main menu from the current game mod. The main menu in that mod requires the level. Make sure to clear any local mods and try again." I have deleted all of my mods and Vortex and uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice. Any ideas?

There is a file called modsettings.lsx in:

Users\whatever\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public

Delete that file and the game should start up for you.

It worked for me.

Currently Vortex doesnt work correctly with full release. Because when you install a new mod and Vortex adds it to the load order, Vortex removes these lines

  Quote

<node id="ModuleShortDesc">

<attribute id="Folder" type="LSString" value="GustavDev"/>
<attribute id="MD5" type="LSString" value=""/>
<attribute id="Name" type="LSString" value="GustavDev"/>
<attribute id="UUID" type="FixedString" value="28ac9ce2-2aba-8cda-b3b5-6e922f71b6b8"/>
<attribute id="Version64" type="int64" value="36028797018963968"/>
</node>

The game needs this in order to even work. So if your gonna use Vortex for modding you need to readd these lines under the "Mods" section of the modsettings.lsx file everytime you install a new mod or the load order changes.

I cannot find this modsettings.lsx file even by searching it in the search bar as well as the AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public. The only .txt file I have in all of my BG3 files is a "debug.txt" I have been trying for days to fix this game. I've verifed files, reinstalled the game, moved the games to two different SSDs and still nothing is working, and contacting support has done nothing for me as well. I just want to play this game :sad:

If you are still struggling with this, I had the same issue, they are "hidden items". If you go to your file explorer and click "View" then click "Show" it should give you a list of things including "hidden items" with a little eye icon. Select this and then search again for the PlayerProfiles file. This is for windows, I don't know how it works on other systems.
