Minimax94
So I would like to join a friend who plays bg3 from time to time, but I would like to use my main character from my own current playthrough. Currently it's not possible, we have to make a new game with new characters from the beginning or I can join his game playing as one of his already present companions. The idea is that my friend would have to send someone to the camp to free a party slot, then when I join, I do so with my level X character from my main game, with items, spells, perks, etc. (so I don't have to use one of his companions or start a co-op game from scratch). When we end the multiplayer, "my character" in "his party" just leaves and it goes back to 3/4 characters in his party. There could be more features, like the xp I gained playing as "my character" in "his game" could be added to my actual character in my actual game (save) as well as removing spent items, adding earned items, etc. I think it sounds a bit tricky but ultimately it's just like spawning a characters that matches the one from my save, and making it a companion, extra features would just be a bonus. It could be done via changing one of the servant presets you can choose from, when recruting from the dead king guy at the camp, so my friend just ask for a new servant with his gold, and it appears that somehow he's a clone of my own character, then I join and play as him. There might be several ways to achieve this. Thanks

DuckDemon
If memory serves right, someone asked for exactly this in DOS2 and the response was to the effect of "because there are so many variables around each individual character, and there being multiple ways to complete quests / progress quests with said variables, *and* it not being designed to work the way you're asking for from the start, it's not feasible to just hop in and out of other peoples games with created characters on different playthroughs".Might have to go back and look on the larian forum for it, but also consider the fact the game hasn't even been out for a week in its full version and people are still even asking for a mod which re-enables achievements when you've got mods using .pak files in your game. If it is doable (and that's if it was even attempted in previous larian games like this one to any degree of success), it probably won't be for a long while. Minimax94
Yeah but what if it's just a simple batch copy and paste into a new character of the equipement and inventory, the level and perks, but NOT any quest/story related detail, because it's supposed to be used in another "world" (the friend's game). It sounds less complicated to do, like there are a lot of mods to edit some npcs, someone could do it the same way but eventually it edits an npc to make it look just like the character you want to "import" ? (look like also means has same class/perks/inventory etc)
DuckDemon
In theory the idea sounds less complicated, but then what you're asking for is a feature of the game which allows one user to import another player character into their world with no story or quest flags triggered on that new character, which in itself could cause other kinds of issues (obviously I've not tried this with BG3, but I've done it in other non-Larian games and its caused anything from story softlocks to bricked / corrupted saves). The other issue is that there is no existing way in the game to save even a character's appearance as a preset in character creation, let alone a way to export that character to a file as just its raw stats, skills, equipment etc without the flags set by game progression. If there is a way to do that currently then that's a step in the right direction, but the game not having even that function at a base level means someone needs to code it in *and* get it stable enough to not ruin saves, which is by no means an easy or quick feat.On the upside to my previous comment though, there's now a functional achievement enabler that works similarly to the DOS2 one (which of course had to be uploaded mere hours after my post).edit; making an edit for clarity ahead of time too, but I'm not trying to just shut down the idea - in fact I'd love to have such a feature, and don't have the time spare personally to commit to making it. It *is* doable but would require a lot of making sure it doesn't ruin saves on the off-chance characters need specific early flags on characters to be present in order to prevent saves just eating dirt, or some way to clone the host's game-critical flags across to the newly imported character which is a whole other thing. ToddDavis00
@DuckDemon My main ask is to be able to replace dead characters. TPK we restart with new characters. If we cannot afford a Res or are otherwise prevented, then we want a new character not a reload. So, how about making a mod that gives us a free "cheat" rez and respec? Could the respec make the character level 1? For additional characters, maybe use one of the mods that allows for more than 4 players at the start? Make extra characters. Maybe kill them right away. Rez and Repec as needed. I think I'm going to look into what it would take to be able to do a Mod myself....
