anjenthedog
After four years playing, you'd think I could answer this myself, but well, I can't. How do I install a texture set to apply to a follower (snaps show that texture used, it's also called out in recommended mods descriptions), and yet not interfere with own my player's texture set? It's not like adding another brow, hair style, or makeup mod, which are applied in-situ, layer based. That's easy, since they're applied independently via layer overlays. Textures overwrite each other during load assembly.
7531Leonidas
Wouldn't it require some sort of loose file with the appropriate folders, reflecting the file paths for the follower, containing the texture(s)? I am just guessing. Maybe scorrp10 or some of the other modding gurus will happen by... Good luck!

Good luck!Oh, so you don't actually install the texture set, you just download it to a local folder (not an install into game action), decompress, snatch what you need, and drop it into the follower's associated folders? That's simple enough I guess. I had some motion in my head that you needed to install them, which for me always ends up overwriting my player's (custom) texture. 7531Leonidas
I 'think' that is the way it should work, I don't want you to blow up your game, based on my advice. I have changed a couple of textures on one or two problematic NPCs, but it was to get them to play nice with the default body settings. The challenge is to find the proper folders, since it seems that there is little standardization in the setup of the folder hierarchies, and some authors even try to prevent texture swaps. And, you might cause seams in your adjusted characters. I really wish that some of the authors would stop by and at least confirm/deny...
anjenthedog
No worries on "potential damage to my game". it's just textures and meshes. The only drag for me in manually extracting and assigning is texture sets that come in a fomod package, which break all the bits and pieces up and distribute them across dozens and dozens of folders so they can be selected and collected per user responses in the fomod. it's just a bit more tedious than I desire. No big whoop. It *would* be cool though if you could install a bunch of different texture sets simultaneously to have "at the ready" for picking when you create a new character, but neither Racemenu or Bodyslide are geared toward that paradigm, so manual it is.
