redsquirrel666
I'm trying to figure out this **** before I lose interest in yet another project because I'm too stupid to use the tools :( I'm trying to retexture the Fallout hotel walls. Everytime I re-tex something it looks OK in Nifskope but in the game it is all shiny and bumpy. In GECK I get Null Null is missing a diffuse map and normal map. The nif points to the newhall_n.dds which I thought was the normal map... it does exist in that folder too. I have no idea where to set a diffuse map. I open the dds in Gimp with the dds plugin and normalmap.exe plugin but I can't see any place to create maps. I don't even know where the normal map is. When I open a _n file I see a transparent and blue image that I can't edit. If anyone knows of an idiot's guide to retexture things (walls) I'd really appreciate it. :thanks:
neunen
newhall_n.dds is indeed the normal map, but if you havent made one for your new texture things will look off, because it will be reflecting light as if it were the old wall and not your new wall. the diffuse map is the main color map. that transparent blue image you see is correct, but rather than edit the existing normal map, youd want to generate a new normal map based on your new texture (with the gimp normal map filter) the reason most of it is transparent is that fallout uses the alpha channel of the normal maps for glossiness heres a few links that might help youhttp://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/No...ion_in_The_GIMPhttp://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...ity_Normal_Mapshttp://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotligh...al-mapping.html hopefully that helps a bit, lemme know if you have any other questions

redsquirrel666
Hmm.. sorry, but I am trying to recolor one of the hallways, and can't figure out how to make just the floor shiny. When I turn up the glossiness under the floor's NiNode, it affects the walls and ceiling too. Is it possible to make just the floor shiny? Thanks :)
neunen
the shine is controlled by the alpha channel of the normal map.so say you open the room_n.dds make a selection around the part that textures the floor and then increase that areas brightness in the alpha channel
