wfandrews
I played Fallout4 from Steam before but now GOG had it on sale dirt cheap so I bought it, it was the GOTY version. When I tried to play it I could not. I can get to where it says "press any key" and it then goes to the start menu but when I select "New Game" what I get is a black screen with that little icon in the right hand bottom of the screen spinning and it never launches the game. I have tried to launch it every way possible; from the desktop icon, from f4se, from my mod organizer, from Fallout4.exe also as an administrator from Fallout4.exe all with the same result. It seems like there must be something I a am not doing but I have no idea what. Any help would be appreciated.
wfandrews
I am not the only one with this problem evidently. I got a suggestion for a fix on the GOG forum to start in windowed mode; tried that but got the same result. It is no wonder that GOG dropped the price so drastically. creator34
No doubt with the DRM and GOG editions on the same system which are most of the GoG Skyrim 'broken' complaints. lol
wfandrews
I do not see why that would be true. I do not have both installed at the same time and I have run Skyrim SSE AE and Skyrim SSSE AE GOG on the same system with no problems.

wfandrews
It is the same thing with or without mods. It is rather discouraging as I have a number of GOG games and this is the first time I have had a problem with them. I do download and play all my GOG games on my hard drive and not with GOG's game application, if that makes a difference.
selerna
you probable have, but have you make sure you have deleted all your old files from your pc, document folder, local files folder and so on ??cause just uninstall can left old files in place. if you are not sure, right click windows icon , click run, type regedit , then edit, find and type Fallout 4 if it finds files there you can see where , go to the appropriate folder it indicates and delete the files.if you know what you are doing you can delete then from regedit direct
wfandrews
I usually uninstall with Revo Uninstaller which pretty much uninstalls everything including registry entries and AppData entries. I manually delete the "My Games" folder. I will give your suggestion a shot and see what happens. Thank you for your replies.
Ankhras85
Hey. Same here, Yesterday i got me a nice FO4 GOG Sale: But it wouldnt work. I found one solution for the missing MCM-Menu: Edit your executables, then write "-forcesteamloader" in arguments, click APPLY and go again. I have still a big issue with Custom Camera: Starting the game results in everything turned upside down and i can only create a character in close-up-mode, and after that my screen turned black/grey. W/O Custom Camera it works fine for the moment. Its helping alot, if you go for all the game-buffing mods, high physics, buffout 4 and so on, i have loading screen fps about 800 atm (blackloading screen, no animation). Also, it seems to help, if you have steam on your device and it is running, maybe because the steam.dll is also in the GOG-installation of FO4. I dont know whats is different to the steam version, but i can load mods that conflicted before. It feels like the GOG-Version can handle/ or ignores such errors. Feels a lot more stable, when you get it running ! Good luck! EDIT: It is back to normal now... i could start the game with almost any mod combination, but now those crashes are back. So gotta juggle mods now... Edited August 29, 2023 by Ankhras85
