GustavDev Error For Multiplayer

My friend and I are now having issues with multiplayer. We both have WASD Character Movement, Native Mod Loader, Mod Fixer, LSLib/Divine Tool, Blades of Chaos, Black Dye, Party Limit Begone, and Fast XP to Level 6 mods. Multiplayer was working before but now when I try to join his game, his game says I join but then I leave once it reaches 100% as I get booted to the main menu.
We both reinstalled the game, unmanaged BG3 in Vortex, and even deleted the Larian Studios folder in appdata after reinstalled before booting it back up. We redownloaded all the mods, and its still not working. We then tried to delete the modsetting.lsx files in global and playerprofiles, because f*#@ it, we don't know what we're doing but might as well try. If anyone has a fix, it'd be very much appreciated.

I saw a reply to a post saying Vortex removes some GustavLines to some code, might try the fix there. If that doesn't work, later going to repeat the previous steps but see if multiplayer works in an "unmodded" state. If it doesn't clearly there's something else wrong.

I'm not sure the solution I'll give will solve your case, but you can both check if you have the same altered files list.

Go to AppData > Local > Larian Studios > Launcher > Cache, and there should be several text files (or perhaps just one) that end with "alteredFiles". Open the most recent one and check the list. If you wish to have a clean run, you should delete all the files listed (or keep them somewhere else for when you're playing solo).

I'm not sure if you can keep them, even if you both have the same list.
I played multiplayer without any mods, and deleting them in the mods folder was not enough, I needed to delete all those files listed to be able to connect with my friend.

Good luck and let us know !

Had this problem with my two friend's that I play multiplayer with all the time after updating to Patch 2.

Easy fix.

I zipped up the contents on my GustavDev folder, sent it to both of them, and they overwrote what they had.

Fixed it in a few seconds. No more data mismatch, and our mods work fine.

I'm having this same problem still and as far as I can tell this would solve my problem. Where's the GustavDev folder located?

Hey there! If using Steam, you can right click the game, go to Manage, then Browse Local Files. From there, select the Data folder, then go to Mods. There you are! GustavDev is right there.

To recap:

Steam > Baldur's Gate 3 > right click > Manage > Browse Local Files > Data > Mods > GustavDev

I hope this helps you!

Having the same problem with a friend of mine. That GustavDev folder has two folders inside of it that are empty.. Data\Mods\GustavDev\Story\RawFiles then no files.

What contents are you able to share?

None of these so called "Easy Fixes" fix the Issue. I literally went and did them line by line. Now, I have not had a problem playing mods on multiplayer until this last patch. is the problem possibly on another side than the user?

thank you for these suggestions. finally got my modded multiplayer game working thanks to this thread.

we kept getting the error "connection failed server has different mod version - server (gustavdev#), client (gustavdev#)" where the numbers (#) did not match.

we tried all these things first:

- updated mods in vortex and made sure they matched for all users
- changing the values in modsettings.lsx so they matched the hosts values
- verified the game files through steam
- deleted all gustavdev folders in the mods folder
- deleted any files that did not match the host from data folder
- deleted all mods and tried to join on a new game

none of these worked, then . . .

we copied the entire mods folder from the host and replaced the mods folder of the users.

as said just zip the entire mods folder found (steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\Data\Mods) and replace the same folder on the users pc.

as this was the final thing we tried I dont know if any of the other steps are necessary.

i wish everyone good luck getting your multiplayer modded games working!!
