bloodqueen95
Would it be possible for someone to make a mod where you can design and make your own companion? There does not need to be voice acting or anything, but it would be nice to make our own characters to join us!
mcgoy
I'm not saying that someone shouldn't create this mod if it appeals to them, but it is not going to be quick/easy to do. In under a year, I saw 4 different projects make very very public announcements about the wonderful Companion mods they were creating only to disappear. Those were on their own projects, not projects that they were doing 'on request'. There are already several mods that add Companions. If you don't like what the Companion has to say you don't have to talk to them. Some add quests and some don't. Some are more compatible with the Core resources (basic DAO) than others. Some are more 'finished' than others. Most, possibly all, are available on Nexus, but a few may only be available on BSN. In no particular order:Ser GilmoreKarmas CompanionsQuests and LegendsMerAnnes Dwarf CompanionsDark TimesBloodworksTevinter WardensLealionReturn to Korcari WildsAnd I am SURE that there are some that I've forgotten. Some I really like, some are very very incomplete. Using the various appearance mods, it is possible to take existing Companions from DAO or from the various Companion mods and give them any appearance that you like. If all you are looking for is a Companion that LOOKs the way that you want them to then I suggest using some of the MANY appearance altering mods to achieve the 'look' that you want with one of the existing Companion mods. Please read the following tutorials for an appreciation for what it takes to create a Companion regardless of whether there is any dialogue. There is no magic wand to say 'zap' here is a generic Companion that someone can create in any way that they like - male/female, dwarf/elf/human, mage/rogue/warrior. The order of the links does not indicate usefulness and I used all three to create my mod(s)http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Follower_tutorialhttp://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/Compatible_Companion_Mod_Creationhttp://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolset/index.php/User:Satans_karma
Marakov
Thanks for the links, I've been thinking about creating a companion mod myself. My idea is to create companions based on the origins, as if they were not recruited by Duncan but escaped their fate and are now recruitable in the fight against the Blight. I would like to create a city elf (Tabris), dalish elf (Mahariel), and an elf mage (Surana). If it goes well, I might create a human noble (Cousland) also. Your great mod (Jasmine is such a little sweetheart) has dwarves covered so I will probably never pursue either the Dwarf Noble or Dwarf Commoner ones. I don't know if I will be successful, but it will be worth a try.
mcgoy
I would suggest doing the Dwarf Origins. It wouldn't interfere and the only thing that I would do is make the Aeducan only recruitable for a Brosca and not recruitable by another Aeducan. Jasmine is such a little sweetheart http://social.bioware.com/project/8619/#details is a mod started on Bioware. I don't know how far they ever got with this mod, I suspect just writing dialogue which may or may not be an issue for you. If you don't like writing dialogue, you might want to reach out to the mod owner. He is still active on BSN. http://social.bioware.com/group/1148/is a group for Companion modders. It seems to be 'dead', but it would be a good place for us to discuss modding new Companions so that we 'stay compatible'. And I'll be sending you a pm
