Oblivion gate not closing

After extensive research on this bug i noticed it wasn't a mod problem, but a known oblivion issue in general. Whats happening is that after i take the sigil stone, it doesnt port me back to tamriel and close the gate. What ways are there around this bug?

Note: the gate is part of the main questline so i need to get it closed, otherwise i would just ignore it :wallbash:

PLEASE if someone would give me suggestions to get around this

I apologize ahead of time, for I have no solution. I, too, have been researching this problem and still have no answers. I have tried a number of things, including combinations of CloseOblivionGate, CloseCurrentOblivionGate, and other artificial means of advancing the quests.

For example, when I did the Bruma gate.... (after Blood of the Daedra, giving Martin an artifact, but before the Defense of Bruma). I got Burd and his men to the top, activated the sigil stone, got animation... no teleport, no quest advancement. Went all the way back out, back through the gate to Tamriel. With the gate in sight, I then did CloseCurrentOblivionGate in the console. This triggered the animation, and teleported me back into Oblivion at the location of the gate (the "other side", so to speak). Burd, his men, and I were all there, but no gate to return through... however, the quest DID update, and speaking to Burd in this wierd quasi-oblivion place gave me the correct dialog, further advancing the quest. So I COC'ed to the Jerall View Inn, expecting (hoping) the gate would be closed and Burd and his men would be there... but no. Even though the quest advanced, the gate was still there. Entering it took me back the quasi-land, with Burd and his men, and no return gate.

So, I COC'ed back to the Jerall View, went back to the gate, then from the console selected the gate and did CloseOblivionGate on it. This actually surprised me: the gate closed, with animation, and out popped Burd and his men! The sky looks normal, the gate is closed, my quest advanced, everyone returned.... sounds great, yes?

Well, no... because just to check things out, I went to the first random gate I could find (in this case, the one just on the mainland across from Deepscorn Hollow), and quickly ran through to the top.... got the sigil stone, got the animation, and..... no dice. Still no teleport, still no advancement... stuck in Oblivion, in a broken tower. WTF?

I added this long, detailed description to your post in hopes that it will trigger something in someone's memory that might help solve this once and for all. Sadly, for reasons best described another time, my current save would lose a LOT (like a couple hundred or more hours of gameplay) if I tried to go back to a save before this occurred... not really an option... starting over would be faster, I think. Of course, that's my problem, and my own fault. But I would love to find the fix for this.... if there is one...

Sorry for hijacking your post, but maybe it will help!
