There are a lot of eggs in fallout, and even a mod where you can hatch these eggs and have them follow you around as minor companions, but quite frankly, its not as realistic as it might be.

 

What my mod idea is:

 

Have a new type of crafting station (like crafting workbenches benches, campfires, reloading benches), but have it be an incubator (some artwork and meshing might be required here).

 

The incubator would have 10 different "recipes",

 

Baby Deathclaw- Deathclaw Egg, purified water, hot plate

Giant Mantis Nymph- Mantis Egg, purified water, hot plate

Nightstalker Pup- Nightstalker Egg, purified water, hot plate

*Small Lakelurk- Lakelurk Egg, purified water, hot plate

Small Radscorpion- Radscorpion Egg, purified water, hot plate

*Young Ant- Ant Egg, purified water, hot plate

Young Cazador- Cazador Egg, purified water, hot plate

*Young Fire Ant- Fire Ant Egg, purified water, hot plate

Young Fire Gecko- Fire Gecko Egg, purified water, hot plate

Young Gecko- Gecko Egg, purified water, hot plate

Young Golden Gecko- Golden Gecko Egg, purified water, hot plate

 

*new variants needing G.E.C.K.ed

 

Now instead of the recipe creating an item that goes into your inventory immediately like most crafting stations, it would have a 24hour timer like the My First Laboratory compound maker. After that timer is up, checking on the incubator will result in a 80% chance of that recipe having success (not all wasteland eggs are fertile, right?) and an 80% chance of receiving a hotplate back (might burn out/break/get wet).

 

These new baby creatures could have more options than just being a companion as well!

-You could take them to the Thorn for 100 caps, sex with red Lucy, and/or chems/weapons

-You could let them follow you around as a minor companion (limit 1 at a time)

-You could kill it, and receive whatever random loot it may have

 

OR i think it'd be cool if you could set up an incubator in a player owned house, and keep the hatchlings as a kind of farm raising project, where if you get 10+ of a kind of animal, your house would receive a steady supply of meat,, legs, eggs, claws, hides, whatever else might be on that particular creature.
