Cutscenes freeze

Hi Community,

 

since I found out, what was wrong with my NMM and got all the Mods to run I encounter the next problem:

My Game freezes in cutscenes. I have an High-End-PC with a very new Graphiccard onboard, 8 GB RAM, enough memory and empty space for the game. And the performance of the game normally is very good. But this is the only odd thing. I already installed the latest patch, and have all the DLC installed.

 

Does anyone know, how to solve the problem?

 

A little help would be nice

a) The phrase "latest patch" is meaningless. You have to say exactly what game version you actually have.

(F'instance, neither Steam nor EA/Origin will automatically apply the 1.05 patch for you.)

 

b) This kind of problem is often linked to video drivers, so without knowing exactly what graphics card and driver version you've running, it's difficult to diagnose anything there.

 

c) You say you have mods installed and working, but don't say which ones. Another case of "without specific information, it's hard to diagnose."

 

d) You don't say if this behaviour occurs in some custscenes, all cutscenes, or just a specific cutscene.

 

In other words, help us help you. :dry:

Ok - I have to admit: Just to cry out help is a little bit too less.

 

To answer your questions as best as I can ( I am no native english speeking person):

 

a) I have the Origin-Version (Downloaded from Origin) - normally I used to play a merchant-version, but my CD broke. After reinstalling the Game via Origin I patched it to 1.05 myself.

 

b) My Graphic-Card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (1 Month old), Driver is the latest 332.21 (installed it new today), 8 GB RAM, Windows 7, i5-2300 CPU

All of these addons are added via the NMM.

 

d) Not all the cutscenes are broken. Most of them run fluently - only a few of them lag so much, that I can't get through. First the start to stumble, then the slowly freeze and the game comes to a halt.

Example: Castle Cousland (Mother comes out of her room, meeting with Ser Gilmore in the hall), Meeting Liliana in Lothering in the Tavern after the fight.

Yesterday I lowered my Graphic-Details from very high to high.

 

My first runs through the game (with my old and shabby Graphiccard) showed me, that these mods worked together at that time - but this was one and a half year ago - and many of the mods are new or patched.

These "freeziing" Cutscenes mostly start normal, and then - when a certain person speaks a certain line, the cutscenes start to stutter - frame by frame, and it gets worse and worse, until the game comes completly to a halt.

 

I've tried out to uninstall mods that alter some things in the gameplay (all my Alistair-Mods), but that hasn't helped.

Ok, that's quite a list! (My own is also between 30 and 50 mods at any one time, so I understand.)

 

I don't see any of the known troublemakers (e.g. IA, JB3) so my recommendation would be the generic mod investigation approach:

 

1. Cut-and-paste your "\Override" folder to another location, then create a new (empty) "\Override" folder.

 

2. Start the game at a point just before one of the problematic cutscenes using "Force Load".

 

3. Does scene play correctly?

a. No, still a problem. At least you know it's not your mods and can look elsewhere.

b. Yes, now the scene runs fine. Continue with mod investigation.

 

4. Add back your mods in batches, testing the same scene after each batch. I do things like "all the NPC appearance mods", since they are unlikely to cause this. Then, "all the additional item mods"; "all the PC appearance mods"; "all the texture mods"; and finally I add back the actual game-play changing mods one-by-one.

 

5. When you encounter the problem, remove the mods you just added, then select a few of them to add back and test again. I tend to work in batches of 3-5 at a time. Continue until you find the one specific mod.

 

6. Once you've found the mod causing the problem you can decide how to proceed: look for a work-around or newer version; look for a different, similar mod; or do without. :thumbsup:

Huhu Thandal,

 

first: Thank you for helping me ;). Jeah - I love the mods. Most of them really give more immersion into the game - especially with the options of romancing, crafting or even some new lands/quests - because I love the Characters from Origin much more, than DAII.

 

And I found the problem:

It was indeed a mod: The Archmage-Expansion-Mod. I deactivated it, and until now I didn't experience further freezes. There are lots of mageoptions anyway - so I don't have to be the fearsome good Archmage :D. At least I found the problem ;). And YOU can add one more Addon to the List of known troublemakers for being the cause of freezing *biggrin*.

And good to know, that JB3 is on the list too - because I was thinking of installing the mod - but I've choosen not to, because I don't like the HD-Skins on my character - she looks like a Drugaddict with this mod :D.

 

Also Improved Atmosphere is a troublemaker? Good, that I excluded this one too - because I have a couple of Tweaks (the Alistair-Romance-Thing) - and I don't want to mess this up.
