Peter Jackon's King Kong tech support

Recommended Posts

So Peter Jackson's King Kong was an old movie tie in game from 2005 based on the movie of the same name. It was on a few different platforms, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox 360 and PC. The PC version is the one I'm trying to use of course, and I know there are many technical hurtles to jump over because of how old this game is. The game had a few different editions, the most popular for PC being the "Gamer's Edition" which included some better visuals and other improvements from the 360 version. The game itself downloads and installs fine, and even starts up with little issue. The issue is the frame rate. It doesn't run slowly, it's at a stable 30 FPS, and even runs at 60 if I disable the frame limit in NVIDIA Control Panel. The reason to limit the frame rate (or try to) is because the game runs too fast. It runs at 30 FPS, but the gameplay is excessively fast, and the game is too hard to control.

I've tried a few things to fix this. Firstly, I installed thirteenag's widescreen fix which also allows frame limiting via an edit of the ini file for it's d3d9 wrapper. As I said, it seems to work but it does not visibly change the gameplay speed. The FPS changes but the game itself is still running too fast.

I tried running the game's exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and Vista, neither had any effect.

As mentioned above, limiting the FPS in NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't have any effect other than on the FPS counter.

If anyone has any clue as to how to even begin trying to fix this issue, I'd be appreciative of any advice. I know the game is old and mostly forgotten and that's why I'm making this post.
