mcfadyenmatt
It isn't too much of an issue, although it gets annoying. Everytime I exit oblivion, it comes up with a black screen and the windows message: Oblivion.exe has stopped working. It is annoying because it always causes me to lose my graphics settings, which always take me a small time to get perfect for my computer; i.e. to basically optimize FPS. It is not due to any mods, and I just want to know, is there an easy way to fix this? N.B. I have already done the compatibility mode for XP and Administrator rights things already. Thank you this happens to me a bunch of times on windows xp but when i hit the escape button it closes but other than that its all fine i never had to reset my graphic settings. i think u might need to unblock the game from the vista fire wall if it isnt or just google around cause thats all i would do and its gotten me through all the games ive gone through. Illiad86
yeah I get that sometimes in WinXP Pro x64....I just recently reinstalled and I don't get the black screen when I quit out nearly as much as I used to when my game was heavily modded. I don't know if it has to do with that or I remember someone saying it has something to do with OBSE? Or am I talking out of my butt? :whistling:
mcfadyenmatt
I don't use OBSE, and I had the problem before any mods. I have also googled but all of the Vista problems seem to happen whilst the game is running, not after it is exited. I read somewhere that HDR( i think it's called that) lighting option removes this, but it doesn't work for me. It just annoys me, no biggie though, just wish there was an answer. Thanx
Lucherenren
There isn't always a solid answer for crashes.First off, make sure the game is patched up: Oblivion is huge, and may require a little fine-tuning.Disable the various autosave features, lest you end up with corrupt saves. Even like that, crashes will still happen every now and then, especially later on in the game: there's a lot of stuff to handle. Anyway, there's a tried-and-tested way to avoid crashes when you're exiting the game on your own: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21416 I've been using this on my system (Vista Home Premium SP1, by the by) for quite a while now, and it works like a charm. mcfadyenmatt
I have my oblivion completely patched up, plus I even have the unofficial patches, and i know it isn't any mods. Anyway, i downoaded the program you recommended and it works!! Woo, finally no annoying crash, i think it is a problem between Vista and shivering isles, i never had the problem before i purchased Oblivion GOTY, so I assume it is just a simple bug that Bethesda has neglected to fix.
