Having Major trouble trying to get the HD texture pack to work. Please

So here's the deal. I feel like i have tried EVERYTHING and NOTHING is working.

So let me start from the begining. It all started when i downloaded the HD texture pack. It said to just extract it to the Fallout 3 folder, so i did. Then it told me to edit the FALLOUT.ini so that a line said binvalidateOlderFiles=1. Well, i go and do that too. So now im all excited to finally see how this whole thing is gonna look, and run, on my rig. Well i go and start up Fallout 3. What do you know, its not working. Its like its trying to work, i mean my map in my Pipboy is colored and all, but all the textures still look like they are default. So i go over to another forum post up my troubles, and attempt to get some help. So then, i get a reply telling me to check out Archiveinvalidation Invalidated! and give it a go. So i do, but still nothing. Then i get another replying saying to check out the Fallout 3 mod manager, and if my texture pack doesnt show up, then somehow i have installed it wrong. Well, it didn't show up. But no one can figure out what i did wrong.

Another thing, i downloaded another mod, one that makes my Pipboy red. Well it worked! My pipboy is red. But everything else is still default texture, including my Pipboy. Only difference is that its red. I also downloaded some high res textures for the rocks, and installed them. Well, i started up Fallout to see if it worked, but it didn't. Strange thing is the rocks where a different color, but they where still a low res.

My appologies for all the writing. If more info is needed please just let me know.

So please, if anyone could help, i would be so thankfull!

Well yeah...

Ums we don't use invalidation that way anymore I don't think.

If you don't have FOMM (fallout mod manager) then you should have it

FOSE is up to you, (fallout script extender) FOMM will launch FOSE so they work together

The FOSE is for like player created scripts like smoking or drinking an other stuff.

Anyway back to FOMM, it has a built in archive invalidation invalidated

Pretty much just run it the one time an that's it.

It toggles on or off, I guess you could toggle it off an back on

each time you get new mods, but you don't have to.

By the way this is just a guess

having to add anything in the form of invalidation

is invalid at this time, I think that stuff is from

when Fallout just came out.

Something else, modz that mod the same stuff usually conflict.

But that doesn't stop us from trying, does it?

Alright, well i tried toggling it on and off. For some reason its just not working. Im pretty sure its got something to do with the game not letting the High res textures do their thing. Like somethings wrong with binvalidateOlderFiles=1. But im just not sure.

Well, In the directions from the place that i got it it said to just unpack it to the Fallout3 folder. So i did. The things in the .rar where a data folder and an archiveinvalidation.txt

But i have also tried unpacking it the Data folder but that also did not work.

My guess is that it's either an archive invalidation issue (therefore download and use the toggle button in FOMM like mechine said) or you didn't unpack the files to the right place (i.e. in the proper file structure). That's happened to me many times depending on how the files are structured in the download, which archive program they're in, etc. All I can tell you is pay attention to the directory structure in the texture mod you downloaded (i.e. DATA/TEXTURES/subfolders) and make sure that's where you put them. Here are some clues that you did it wrong....if you see another folder called DATA inside your Data folder, or you see a folder called DATA or TEXTURES inside your Textures folder.

@Vahaara

You also have set the Texture quality to High in Detail tab under Fallout 3 Options Detail -> Advanced in the general game options setup for FO3? Just a hint, I think you already have but just check so that detail can be waved.

Yes, the texture quality is set to high. So, here is a screencap of my files folders and how they look right now. Maybe this might help

Also, this is a screencap of the FALLOUT.ini

bInvalidateOlderFiles should be set to "1," not "0" as you have it. Manually edit that to "1" or use FOMM or ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated.

You didn't post a screenshot of what's in your "textures" folder, so I have to assume you did that part right.

@Vhaara OK! The next thing is to put things in the right folder like deckel11 said or the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated thingy these are the major culprits to get a mod working, and since I see you didn't install the game on "C:\Program Files" UAC should not be the issue either.
