NPCs and locked doors

Is there anything I can do as a modder to prevent my NPCs from opening locked doors?

 

I have custom AIs that cause them to pick up items of interest. Even though I have neither of the "unlock doors" flags on, they will still open any door in their way to get there. Can I change that?

 

It is rarely a significant issue, but as they say, "it's locked for a reason!"

 

After playing the game 10 years, I just discovered "Redwater Den", and the guards there immediately turned hostile when one of my NPCs opened the wrong door.

 

I'm pretty sure that even if I get them to not touch the door, they'd still teleport through it to get at the items they seek. I'm ok with that, eventhough it is not my intent; they know not to pick up owned items and will therefore not turn the guards hostile.
