Another 'Help Me Build a Computer' thread

Except it's a TLC drive with low spare capacity, which means its endurance WILL suffer.

Its MLC version - 840 Pro - is considerably more expensive.

Crucial M500 480 offers MLC flash that has better lifespan than 840 Evo's TLC and very close performance, making it a better choice for one's only drive.

And, in terms of price on Canadian newegg, M500 wins out by 12%:

Making it the strictly superior choice.

Hm.. I meant, like, to put discs into the computer, actually. Sorry for not really knowing correct terminology. ):

It's called "optical drive".

Lacking an optical drive today is like lacking a water trough and a pole to tie a horse to next to your house.

Sorry if I offend the elitists, but some people still like to play older games that use discs.

Yup, and I enjoy watching DVDs and whatnot on my computer, occasionally, as well.

Plus, isn't that how I would install an operating system, so I can use the computer? o.O

It's not like equestrianism is quite dead either.

It's really rare to find games today that don't have a no-CD version. Everything on Steam or any other digital distribution network has CD DRM ripped out and replaced with web DRM.

Virtually everyone who has games on CD or DVD discs has them left over from before, you don't go around buying them for a brand new PC. If you have the media, you usually have the drive, that's why I didn't include one.

Not really, you can install Windows 7 or 8 from a USB pendrive with the official Windows USB Installation Tool.

Normally I'd suggest buying an external drive so you can carry it around, use with laptops and whatnot. But if you actually know you'll use one, get an internal, they're cheap enough.

If you want it for movies, you probably want blu-ray, that's what they come on now, and IDK if there's any difference in quality, price is rarely an indicator, so I guess this would do fine:

Burners are somewhat more expensive, but there likely is a quality difference, IDK what's good anymore, been so long.
