Unable to launch game through Nexus Mod Manager

Ok guys, I am in need of some help. I love Skyrim and Mass Effect so Dragon Age seemed like the next logical step.

So please excuse a dumb question (I'm still a little new to installing mods)

I currently have Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition - installed through steam - and am trying to use the relatively new Dragon Age Nexus. I have selected a few mods I wish to use, no more than 10 I think. So I have installed them all with the mod manager just as you would with Skyrim. Yet when I try to launch the game through the mod manager I keep getting an error stating that the Dragon Age launcher can't be found. So I tried to just play the game through steam thinking the mods I had installed would work as they do with Skyrim but with no luck.

So does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Or why the mod manager stats it can't find the DA Launcher?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to Thedas!

There are several things going on here, any one of which might cause the behaviour you're seeing.

First; The "Launcher" was removed from DAO by the publisher last August. All the useful elements to which it provided access can still be found, but the Launcher itself is no longer a part of the package.

Next; What version of the NMM are you using? The older versions of NMM won't work with the newest version of DAO because of the item above. There is a work-around for this problem, but it's no longer necessary because the new version of NMM doesn't need to find the Launcher.

After installing the latest version (0.46.0) of NMM, you have to let it scan your drive to correctly locate your installation of DAO. That's the only way it can know where to put your mods so the game will recognize them.

Then; Which mods are you trying to use? Even the best manager (NMM, in my opinion) can't handle every single type of mod for DAO. See this article for details: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies.

Lastly; Unless you're talking only about "appearance" mods, I strongly recommend against using any mods at all for your first playthrough. None.

The only exceptions are maybe a few specific "bugfix" ones. Those few are: "Qwinn's Unofficial DAO Fixpack" or "DA Rules Fixpack", and the "Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialogue Fixpack" (MRP) with any of the associated add-ons you fancy. Nothing else. As long as you have the 1.05 patch, (which, last I heard Steam would not apply for you... although that may have been fixed now) there are no game-breaking bugs.

The vanilla game is excellent, and you will want to re-play it several time. This way, you'll have a much better idea of the kinds of mods you might like, and a better appreciation of just how much the mods you choose are doing to enhance your experience. See this thread for a general discussion on the topic: Good Mods - Opinions.

Happy Adventuring!

Ok so first off thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

I am currently using the newest version of NMM (0.46.0) Most of the mods I am using are appearance mods, a few weapons mods, nothing really game changing. But don't worry, I was impatient and started a playthrough already. I'm not that far in tough, just added Morrigan to my squad. And I plan on finishing the game before I start another playthrough.

So I guess I'll study the Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies page before I try to add the mods I have dl'ed. And I will definitely check out the Good Mods page.

So again thanks for the help, and for the detailed instructions.
