Oblivion not working

When i open oblivion laucher i click play and then i get a box in the corner of my screen that is black or white (i have tryed several times to get it working) and then a error thing pops up.

I have reinstalled oblivion, deleted the registys since CCleaner said there was a problem and i have gone to /documents/Mygames/oblivion and deleted the folder that containted the .ini file too. These all have failed to fix my issue. I also have tryed this several times in the past few hours.

I have directx 9.0c, i have above the minimal system requirements and i am running Windows XP professional sp3 ,(5.1 build 2600). I have the up to date drivers as i updated them last wednesday (so i assume i do).

So how do i fix my issue? any ideas?

Thanks in advance. Sorry for bad english. Hope this is in the right place.

Also a screen shot is attached for you to see what im talking about.

Hi,

are all your drivers up to date? If not, update them.

By the way: CCleaner is a really nice tool for deleting temp-files and so on, BUT the registry-cleaning-function is totally senseless. It's often said that the OS boots slower if there are any empty registry-entries. This is not true as the OS simply ignores such entries completely. I would recommend to never allow a tool, you don't really know (and I mean 100%) to edit your registry. This could easily lead to an unstable system or, the worst case, a system which isn't able to boot anymore.

Dual OS should not affect this at all. I must admit that I have no clue about what's going on with your Oblivion. However, I will think about it and I hope I am able to find a solution.

By the way, Your Oblivion is up tu date, isn't it?

@Ulthur - normally it doesn't make a lot of difference if you clean the registry. However, in the case of Oblivion, when you uninstall the game , it does not uninstall the registry entries. Then if you reinstall, it uses the old registry entries instead of replacing them with new ones. :pinch: IF you reinstall in exactly the same location, It may work fine - but if you change the location - different drive, different folder or different path it does matter and your game will not work.

So, in this isolated case - you really do need to clean the registry entries. But for it to work, you must uninstall the game using the game uninstaller, then reboot the computer - this flags the left over registry entries as orphans and allows any registry cleaner to easily remove them ( if your cleaner allows, set to only remove orphans) After cleaning, reboot again to allow windows to do some housecleaning. Then reinstall

I verified this procedure using a legal DVD install disk. I have not verified using a Steam version as I don't have the steam version of Oblivion.

Here is the entire uninstall/reinstall procedure http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Oblivion_reinstall_procedure
