Starfield Mod Compatibility Megathread

Recommended Posts

I'd like to compile a running list of mods that don't work correctly with the Starfield Vortex extension. If you'd like to reply with what mod isn't working (links and names would be super helpful) and any information as to why not, we can look into getting more mods working as time goes on.

Starting to move this to a better location on a Google sheets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1xEdM0YUHpZEVLeOtuLUOeLW537BMG2oys4FK5Xg-V1o/edit?usp=sharing

I'll leave this pinned at the top and will collate replies below.

Thanks!

Mod Name:

Galactic Underwear for Vanilla Females

Link:

https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1499

Reason:

Vortex puts the files into the data folder steamapps\common\starfield\data while they should go into documents\my games\starfield\data

My take on the problem:

Vortex doesn't account for the two data folders affecting starfield, which is organized differently than skyrim, for example. (What confused me at the start was that there is a "Mod Manager Download" button on the files tab of the mod.)

My suggestion:

Since this requires a manual download at this point in time, the Mod Manager Download option should not appear on the Nexus page until the issue is resolved.

The install instructions are incorrect. No mod needs to be installed to this folder. Vortex will include a workaround for this in the next update.

I noticed quite a few mods ended up sitting in my Starfield root folder instead of the Data subfolder because the zips have extra top level folders in their folder structure above Data.

In most cases the uploader just put a redundant folder on top with the name of their mod as the first folder in their zip and the Data folder is one folder below.

Simple logic, you right click on the folder and the zip automatically has the name that you want it to have...

i have a feeling that is something that will keep on happening, maybe you guys can put in some kind of workaround?

examples:

Black Pacifier ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2374 )

dp starfield eye material fix ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1458 )

dp scorch marks 2k ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/1124 )

Immersive Coffee Mug Graphic Replacer ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/3088 )

UC Retexture Project ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2846 )

White Jumpsuit Set ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/2955 )

...those are all folders in my Starfield root folder now

(also if i uninstall the mod and remove the archive the empty folders stay in the root folder with managed by vortex files, please remove empty folders on uninstall if at all possible)

This one is a bit different and one level harder, 3 folders with instructions in the folder name where each data folder below it is supposed to go... just take a look, faster than me explaining it.

Nuka-Cola Mod ( https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/3044 )

I just went ahead and manually repackaged all those zips and threw them at Vortex myself,

it would be nice if i could manually add a link to the source instead of it failing to look up a Nexus ID, pressing reset and that is it.

And if i could sneak a feature request in here, an option to rename the mod title in the list would be much appreciated,

so we can sort mods that replace the same things alphabetically together and see on a glance which textures for the Maelstrom i'm having active today.

right now it looks like this

- carbon malstorm

- dp maelstrom 1k

- Maelstrom Constellation Retexture

it is alphabetically nowhere close in the list and using the search with "Maelstrom" does not show the one that says "malstorm" because typo in the zip. MUH OCD !!!

let me rename it with F2 or rightclick or something so i can sort this stuff please.

kthx

@Chouonsoku I've removed you post as it's not relevant to the topic at hand.

@Z3R0B4NG Thanks for the feedback. I haven't looked at all of them but it seems this is more cases of authors packing their mods in unexpected ways (i.e. adding an unnecessary top level folder) we can try and account for this.

Hi all...

since a few days I have, if I understand it correctly, the same problem as 'Z3R0B4NG'. Namely that Vortex no longer correctly extracts the mod into the corresponding Data Subfolder, but the mod into the Starfield Folder... no matter if via 'Download mod' or manually via 'Drop File'... but until a few days ago everything worked fine... And no regarding the superfluous extra top level folders (the error I have also seen with some mods)... the zip files I assembled myself and wanted to install via 'Drop File' manually had correct paths i.e. Top Folder > Data > Textures etc. ...can I fix anything or is there soon a patch from Nexus?

Thanks for your help in advance

Ok... Update:

The problem seems to be that unlike Fallout 4 and Skyrim, Nexus is currently not extracting properly on Starfield mods with top folders. I just downloaded a mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/4267

In this one, the author does not use a top folder. Thus, the zip file starts directly with the data folder and that is then installed correctly by Vortex...

This mod installs fine. The only problem I can see is that it stripped the superfluous files ( 1.jpg (1.4 MB) 2.jpg (1.4 MB) 3.jpg (1.4 MB) 4.jpg (1.2 MB) 5.jpg (1.8 MB) Readme.txt (252 B))

just wanted to add my 2 cents currently the download works fine just vortex has a problem where to place the downloaded files , i managed to just copy past them to the right place so i dont mind but i hope this can be solved before beth starts the engines roling to add patch afther patch of fixes for bugs that should never have gotten past the beta testers!

Not sure if this topic has been discussed on here already but I have produced a video on how to get Vortex to work with Starfield for anyone, like me, who uses Windows 11 and Onedrive. This is for Steam users and don't know if the same method can be applied for Gamepass users. https://youtu.be/GEoS8pFS9lw?si=q5eJQFiRJI_kw57E
