[Mod Request] Mod Manager for Mac

I’d love this too.

While I’m now playing on my Mac, I had been playing since PC release day on my PC, and I’d collected quite the library of mods. After Mac release I tried playing “vanilla” and just couldn’t hack it lol. So I took out any mods that used script extender on my PC and exported the modsettings.lsx file and zipped up my Mods folder and transferred that to my Mac. Amazingly, everything worked when I put the files in the right spot! I understand many might not have a PC available to them for this purpose, but if you do it’d be worth a shot while waiting for Mac mod tools! Of course, your mileage may vary depending on mods used.

I so wish for this as well, unfortunatelly I doubt it will happen. Just not as many mac playest to be worthed to maintain 2 versions of a mod manage. Especially if you consider it's probably not just a recompiled version, there are some fundamentally different things, like for example the file system, which is paramount since a mod manager relies mainly in working with files/folder structures and also editing files.

O well, one can dream. In the meantime I will try to manually install, there is a beginning for everything I guess. There is a thread here that I think is a good starting point: https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/p96y9y/how_viable_is_modding_for_mac/

Good luck!

I've already finished the game on my husbands PC but he doesn't want to play with mods. So I decided to download buy BG3 for my mac and play the way I want to ...with mods. LOL Now I find out that it requires a Mod Manager that only works on windows! Hopefully a mod manager will be made for mac! I can find no alternative way to get the mods to work.

Even a mod manager won't help mods that require scripting or a DLL manager like Native Mod Loader. Some modscome as files to be placed inside the game Data folder. For those you'd have to go to the Baldur's Gate App (in SteamApps/Common on Steam) and right-click to Show Contents. Most mods come as pak files and can usually be placed in the Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/Mods folder. Some but not all of those require an entry in the modsettings.lsx file.

Some modders include the information for the modsettings file if you're not using a mod manager. Otherwise the only way to get the information that I've found is to use a tool like Modders Toolbox to unpak the pake file. And of course that only runs on Windows. I've tried running it under WINE without success. You can always run it on a PC or under Boot Camp. Personally, I'm linking to my Boot Camp partition using VMWare Fusion.

I understand if this seems very technical to those who just want to play. Unfortunately, that's where we are on the Mac.

Thank you bobbd for the reply. It seems that for now, Mac users won't have access to most mods. So far, I've found only one mod that worked and that is the "ShowApprovalRatings". I simply placed the .pak under documents/larian studio/baldur's gate 3/mod and it was up and running without a glitch.

If you happen to find any other mods that work on a mac, please post them here. :)
