Broken Steel storyline won't start.

Recommended Posts

At the end of "Take it Back!", I punch in the right code, pass out, the final narration scenes play, but the game goes to credits not "Two Weeks Later." I'm signed onto LIVE and have all four DLC's listed in Downloads. I'm at Lvl 24 already and have seen a lot of Broken Steel content while playing like the Super Mutant Overlord and Albino Rad Scorps.

Anyone know why the Broken Steel storyline won't kick in?

All other DLC's are working just fine.

Help.

there's more than one possible cause for your problem, ranging from your game version all the way to a particular mod conflict.

more details needed from you before anyone can comment really.

- Game V1.6. I've updated each time a patch has been released though didn't try playing BS until after the 1.6 patch.

- I've downloaded GFWL Disabler and have used it move files to the Data Folder, though normally I play with GFWL enabled.

- I've purchased and downloaded all the DLC's... they all are listed in my Downloads and all the in-game messages play (including the one that sez Broken Steel is loaded). The following are in my Fallout 3/Data Folder...

ThePitt.esm

Anchorage.esm

PointLookout.esm

BrokenSteel.esm

- Using the following mods loaded...

Using Dimon Type3 Body

Cloth.esp

Draz conversions.esp

Amy_Armor.esp

Centered 3P Cam.esp

Cliff's_Sellable_Body_Parts.esp

Dark_Temptress.esp

- The following bsa's are in the Fallout 3/Data Folder...

Anchorage - Main.bsa

Anchorage - Sounds.bsa

BrokenSteel - Main.bsa

BrokenSteel - Sounds.bsa

Fallout - MenuVoices.bsa

Fallout - Meshes.bsa

Fallout - Misc.bsa

Fallout - Sound.bsa

Fallout - Textures.bsa

Fallout - Voices.bsa

PointLookout - Main.bsa

PointLookout - Sounds.bsa

ThePitt - Main.bsa

ThePitt - Sounds.bsa

- Also, the "2 weeks later.bik" is in my Fallout 3/Data/Video folder.

I've tried turning everything off and it still doesn't load. It's weird, because everything works pretty flawlessly together and I've been able to level up beyond 20 and get the Broken Steel weapons and such. It's just not recognizing the end game "Two Weeks Later." It never has.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

okay, that's more info, thankyou.

but,

what are you using to launch all this?

i use FOMM and if you do also, then listing the plugins in the FOMM-load-order is needed, it could just be a matter of load-order-conflict.

if you're using FOSE with FOMM, that has an update for 1.6 now, which may help.

if what you posted IS your load-order then the only thing that stands out is that BrokenSteel should before PointLookout (might be an issue).

within your load-order, all the .esms should be first and all the .esps last as a general rule.

i didn't use GWFL disabler, not sure what that does (other than the obvious) or how it does it, because i did mine manually, much easier if you know where to look.

in WindowsXP it's in C:\Documents and Settings\"insert your user name here"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive\DLC\"numbers and letters"\"lots of zeros and a number"\"lots of crazy numbers and letters"\Content

the other DLC's are closeby, easier enough to copy and paste them directly into your FO3 Data folder and never use GFWL, (you'll have to move your saves also).

it's different for Vista, you'll have to look for that but i've seen it around.

also, i don't see the other BrokenSteel biks listed, the B09,B27,B28,B29 .biks...

that could be it, maybe.

:)

hope that helps some.

In Vista, it's the Users/UserName/AppData/Local/Microsoft/XLIVE folder. In that folder there's DLC, SysCache, Content, Updates, and Titles. In the DLC there's one folder LotsOfNumbers and inside is LotsOfZeroes and inside that is four folders that clearly keep the four add-on games. The esm's and bik's are already moved to my Data folder. Do I need to move what's in the XLIVE folder over to Data as well?

In my Saves folder, should I just pull everything out of my GFWL username file and into Saves? Maybe rename my username file?

I went ahead and installed the FOMM and changed the load order to esm's first (Fallout to Anchorage to The Pitt to BS to Pt Lookout) followed by hair and eye mods then room-type mods then armor and clothing. I launched from the FOMM and I still got the same result.

The only difference in not running the game from GFWL is it freezes on exit. At least when LIVE is enabled, I can exit to Main Menu then Exit Game without crashing my computer.

Rrrgh. I hate GFWL! Just give us a d@mn DVD expansion. F-ing console Kool-Aid.

SUCCESS! I finally got it working. Using the Timeslip FOMM and rearranging the order to esm's first followed by esp's is a good start... but the real culprit preventing Broken Steel's storyline from loading at the end of "Take it Back!" is... wait for it...

...Megaton House Overhaul and PreWar Theme.esp!!!

With all the mods I have going (see my post above), I just started by clicking them off one-by-one and running the end game to see if BS would load. Yep, sure enough, the darn Megaton House mod was somehow inhibiting the system. That fixed it for me. Hopefully, anyone else reading this and having the same problem, it's as simple as clicking this mod off before launching. I'm sure there might be others, so my best advice is clicking off your mods individually starting with mods that change the environment like houses or rooms.

Good luck everyone! See you in the Wasteland!

BTW-I can play it with GFWL enabled with no problems.
