Okay so basically the looting experience is boring and not rewarding, it's mundane and tedious.
Obviously I'm gonna pick up even cheap items, because it might make me enough money to buy an extra potion or scroll in the future, but it's a pointless part of gameplay, a robot could do it.

SUPPLIES
Supplies by default are too abundant and easy and boring,
the default system is entirely scrapped

The new system

The party will have 1 camp supply sack and that's it.
The supply sack is limited to 150 supplies (balancing option)

The supply sack is a magical item(not a container).
When an enemy dies and drops XP, it also adds a couple of supplies into the supply sack. (balancing option: XP to SUPPLY conversion rates etc.) .
Optional: Exploration XP also adds supplies (I don't know if the game flags it as explorationXP somewhere, but sometimes I get XP for doing nothing but exploring, so perhaps this could be a small place to add rewards for less vicious players)(balancing option)

Imagine
So now, the player cannot mass 1000s of supplies, rendering the supply system redundant.
The supplies are finite and rewarded for combat, a player requires supplies to rest when they actually spend spellslots and such in combat.

Now because the supplies are also CAPPED and can be maxed, the player has more motivation to actually spend their spells and use cool actions.

Optijons
This will be balanced by adjusting the XP to Supply and MAX SUPPLY. Multiple versions to create different experiences and challenges.
Joyful combat: a limit of 100 max supplies (requires 80 to rest),with a fair XP to Supply drop rate, making the fighting rewarding fast and having a fun blasting various abilities, maximizing action.
or
Survival mode:a limit of 150 max supplies, with a low XP to supply drop rate, making every move count, but also encouraging the player to take a rest and rejuvinate WHEN they have earned it.
