lnomsim
Last time I modded the game, loading loose files didn't cause any issues. I did a clean instal of the game (at least I thought i did, for some reasons some mod files reappeared when reainstalling the game, I did delete the folder after uninstalling since it is still in my garbage bin) anyway, I thought I'd try using 'my game disabler' to make it easier to install textures mods in the root folder. But... 90% of textures mods I use do not work. All I have in game are black textures with a lot of reflections. Any idea what coud cause this? (i have installed the mods with vortex, and yes, I set archive invalidation, since some of those texture mods work) EDIT: apparently it was an issue with vortex using symling. i tried to switch to hardlink and it completely messed up everything. Vortex told me every mod was duplicated (which was not the case), I tried uninstalling and removing the mods through vortex, it didn't work, i ahev to reinstall the whole game since I can't even launch it. I'll see if it works better once the installation will be done.
smr1957
There are no mod managers that work with Starfield as of yet. For now, until the mod managers have been revised to be compatible with Starfield, mods must be installed manually. And, the game is designed to have mods installed in the DATA folder located in the Documents folder here: ...\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Data (the StarfieldCustom.ini goes in ...\Documents\My Games\Starfield - not the Data folder), and NOT in the usual location in the game's root folder where the .exe file is. Anyone saying differently, is just wrong - even if they are getting the mods to work when they do so. In fact, it is this change in location as to where and how mods are installed that is one of the problems as far as redesigning mod managers is concerned. As to any mods that may have a plugin, no one should really be using a mod which does, as they can only be properly made and created using the Creation Kit and/or xEdit - neither of which are available yet. Any mod that contains an .esp/.esm is a broken game waiting to happen, as any .esp/.esm that is being uploaded is made by using hacks and workarounds. There is an exception as far as SFSE is concerned, but even that, at this point should only be used with a fair deal of caution - as the mods which use it often suffer from the same flaws that other mods do - they are using .dll files, and there simply is not enough known about how the game works under the hood, as of yet, to properly create one - so many authors or attempting to either reverse engineer the files, or are using methods which are not designed for Starfield) And, as always when it comes to modding, there is The Golden Rule of Modding (from the PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links, References, and News, in the Modding the Game section): "No matter how good a mod may look or sound, no matter how much you may really want a mod, if the mod does not work as it should, causes issues in your game, or even seems to have the potential to cause issues, dump the mod. A game that does not work is no game at all." A bit long winded, I know - but there is far too much misinformation floating around right now - some of it due to mod authors posting wrong info as to installation - so a little more detailed review is best. Good luck!
Superseal17
In your StarfieldCustom.ini, put the following lines: [Display] sPhotoModeFolder=Photos [Archive] bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= Also, I noticed the texture mods need to be installed in the My Games/Starfield/Data/Textures folder, yet the Vortex mod manager puts them in the Data/Textures directory of the root game location. So, what I did was I made a symlink (in Windows called a shortcut) from the Textures folder in the Data folder of the game install location to the Data folder in the My Games/Starfield directory. This ensures that the textures load correctly, withouth having to manually copy them. Edited September 12 by Superseal17

In Settings on the Mods tab, just flip the Folder Junction switch.
