TheEdgerunner
hi, for some reason I'm not sure this was also the case if I get to a high point and look into distance, and turn, the mountains disappear as I turn... and regenerate ..like there is a barrier not letting me see that far? what setting in the ini has changed for this to happen ? please can someone help this is driving me insane lolmany thanks
zanity
Err- the game is rubbish. All Beth games on the Creation Engine have issues like this- some of which do eventually get fixed by mods. The problem is that Team Todd always 'optimise' for very low spec systems, usually the worst console hardware that will run their game. The idea that a simple .ini change will reverse said optimisation issues is usually far too simple-minded. And indeed crude distance improver bodges usually break the game in fundamental ways. Your complaint is one of current image stability- something any good engine coder wants to address. Pop-in driven by rotation rather than significant forward movement is always horrid. However, Carmack of iD allowed the most terrible of near object pop-in in his final engine to allow hyper-excessive occlusion culling of as much foreground detail as possible. Even good engine coders can have a screw loose when it comes to the issue of image stability. The issue you see is usually down to very poor maths skills- coders who cannot process the consequences of rotational movement vs lateral movement. The proper solution is object visibility state memory- in other words if an object is rendered in the player's field of view, the render system should keep rendering the object until it is certain said object will no longer form part of what the player is seeing. Such an algorithm requires a 5 out of 10 skill level at most. Beth's coders are around 3 out of 10. Industry worst for a AAA dev. Todd would argue his (dreadful) render system only has issues like this occasionally. It may be true, BUT when modder start crafting much better planets, they'll want much more stable render options. Mods did fix many such similar issues in Skyrim.
