Caael
I'm having an obscure problem with my copy of the game. I'm running the Steam Copy by the way. It was running fine yesterday with quite a lot of mods on. Was having fun, and then I saw a mod that I wanted to try out (DMC Stylish Jump) so I installed it using OMM, like I do with all my mods, but it didn't work. I tried then manually installing it, and it still wouldn't work. So I tried another strategy in OMM, and it said there would be loads of file conflicts with existing mods, but they were nothing much so I carried on. This is when the game stopped working. It loads up to the main screen, I can access all the functions on there (new game, continue, options etc) but when I'd go to load a game, it would get halfway through the main loading screen and just quit out to the desktop with no warning at all. It does this whenever I try to load anything; a new game or a saved game which rules out a corrupt savegame. At first I thought it was caused by the DMC Stylish Jump mod, so I deactivated this. Problem remained. Then I deleted every instance of the mod off my computer entirely. Problem remained. Then, I deactivated every mod I had going. Problem remained. I thought it must have been a problem with some of the original game files being overwritten. Luckily, a while back I'd backed up the data folder so I deleted the one I thought to be corrupt and replaced it with the back up. The problem STILL remains. So I'm lost, I really dont know what to do. I've tried everything possible, short of deleting the game and reinstalling, and I still dont know the source or cause of the problem. Anybody else have had similar problems and how have they solved it? Much appreciated, Caael Edit: DxDiag for those who will find it useful
bben46
Does the DMC Stylish Jump require OBSE? And do you have it? I'm not sure if OBSE will work with steam yet and I am looking for some confirmation one way or the other. My guess is it will not work with the steam version for the same reason it will not work with the D2D version. A different anti piracy protection scheme than that used on the disk version. When you removed the mods did you remove all of the meshes and texture files associated with them? If you are using OMODS, first deactivate them before deleting or moving anything. To get back to a vanilla game, either move everything in your Oblivion\data folder - files and subfolders - not on this list out of the Oblivion folder or delete it. The files listed are required for the game. If you have installed OBSE, try moving the OBSE files out of the \Oblivion folder Any file that starts with OBSE. Start the game using the Oblivion Launcher.exe instead of the OBMM launcher (OblivionModManager.exe) Let us know what works as the steam version is still relatively new and we don't have much info on it yet. :thanks:
Caael
Well I have OBSE installed but I dont use anything with it so I doubt that's the problem. It does work with steam, they released a version which means it will work with the steam version. Well when I removed the DMC stylish mod, I just replaced the oblivion/data files with a backup I'd created before installing the mod, effectively removing them. All the other mods I just deactivated through OBMM. Doing this should have got the Vanilla Oblivion back, but it still has the problem. It's not mods causing the problem, everything in the data folder is fine so I really dont know what the problem is. It cant possibly be hardware problems as I was running it fine previously with no problems. If I have to, I'll install it on another computer in my house and just transfer everything from that across but I shouldn't have to resort to that. I just want to know what's causing the problem, because its not a data conflic or a mod.
