Oh hey, not really related (at least to the original question), but I just found a rather nice video on youtube explaining the strawman fallacy. It explains it far better than I did. In fact, its given me some more illumination as to what has happened here. See for yourselves:

Actually, that's almost exactly what I was thinking of you, seriously. You accused me of making a strawman argument, so I pointed out that's NOT the definition of a strawman argument. I even posted a video of a phd philsopher explaining the subject. In line with that, you started doing a tactic this man even pointed out that is part of an INTENTIONAL strawman fallacy (it is possible for people to do it by honest mistake, just so be fair). You insisted I said things that I did not. You insisted I didn't say things that I did. Also, you offered no help; all you did was berate me and throw faulty arguments against me. We were having a literal monty python argument (go look up that skit if you haven't seen it, its become quite a meme due to how frequently it occurs on the internet). Then there's you claiming I post word salad. To be fair, I thought maybe you simply didn't understand what that is. Grammatical sentences are the opposite of word salad. Word salad is a symptom suffered by schizophrenics where they say or write random words that DON'T form sentences. What I'm typing clearly is not that. However, I suspect you do know better and that YOU'RE trying to gaslight me because the last post you made you left out capitalization and punctuation, trying to create the illusion that what I type is different from yours. Why then does nobody else's posts look like yours to me? Showler actually told me how to block people over on the feedback board, and I did follow it and even thanked him (even though he was one of the people I blocked, thus my less than warm thanks). If I have a hard time making sense of your post then why not his? Also, why are you not acknowledging that I did heed someone's advice when its literally the third comment in that thread? Also, if my posts are all word salad, then how are you making appropriate responses to them? That's fishy. They shouldn't make the slightest sense at all if they are word salad. Thus, you responding to me proves that they are not. They also prove that you are actually reading them. Epic fail.

 

Tell me then, what has someone told me to do? I don't know. You made me type the same thing 3 or 4 times, so why don't you do the same? Even looking over your posts, I can see no suggestions relating to my game; you're just calling me an idiot over and over. I'm not trying to be a vigilante here, I'm just honestly baffled as to why someone like you hasn't been banned yet. Its actually made me not want to post here again, so clearly you're causing a problem. Then again, the mods did ignore that post Arthmoor made in my thread slandering the makers of LotD, which prompted them to respond.

 

Also, why are you suddenly throwing a fit after I posted a video of some guy who's clearly smarter than both of us that better explains the mistake you made? Also, I wasn't leveling the accusation at anyone myself; I was refuting that what I did doesn't constitute a strawman fallacy. I wasn't attacking anyone, I was defending myself and pointing out the actual definition of a strawman argument. Saying 'that's not what that word means' doesn't constitute an accusation. Also, I don't recall anyone making a strawman argument in this thread.

 

Also, I did NOT do this for attention. How is asking for help just 'looking for attention'? I wanted help, not an argument. You still haven't addressed my counter-arguments to your proposition that asking for help is 'entitled'. Asking for help is normally seen as rather humble. I literally couldn't come up with an answer myself, so I made a post explicitly stating that hoping to get help. All I wanted was to play my game again. I was wanting someone to post something I haven't tried yet, but I did not get that (other than sorta through Showler's last post).

 

At times honestly it comes across like we simply suffer from a major understanding. However, your behavior doesn't line up with that as I've explained, and I've refuted many times that the accusations you're making AREN'T what I said and yet you keep insisting 'no its not' over and over, literally like the guy working at the argument clinic in that monty python sketch.

 

You're clearly a troll, albeit a mildly clever one. You've been trying to gaslight me (accusing me of writing word salad when I clearly have not been), berating me (accusing me of being entitled and making strawman arguments), saying things I didn't say while claiming things you obviously did not say IN A THREAD THAT SHOWS COUNTER-EVIDENCE TO BOTH THESE ARGUMENTS, and you keep trying to bait me into responding to you with repetitive posts. I guess the latter part is working, though honestly I'm mostly still posting here because I hate disinformation (as I've said many times before), and this proved to be an opportunity to talk about a wide spread logical fallacy. I was actually thinking of finding an off-topic board here and bringing up logical fallacies, mostly to explore them but also hopefully improve discussions on this board while I'm at it. Of course, I'll be honest I don't have much hope either will happen, given the type of stuff you see on the internet and my experiences on this board, but it never hurts to try. Maybe it'll result in an improvement. Surely everyone would like better discussions on here, wouldn't they?
