Having problems getting my model from 3ds to nifskope properly

I feel stupid posting about this since from all the tutorials I've seen it looks like it should be a simple process. Alright so the Lincoln Repeater is my favorite weapon in FO3, but the default model sucked really bad so I made a new one in hopes it would also help me get back into modding(used to do CS stuff). Anyway my problem is in exporting the model from 3ds max as a nif. I have the latest nifskope 3dsmax plug in and I can export the model and open it in nifskope fine. But when it comes to copying parts from my nif and pasting over the old nif is where i get conflicts. After I copy my tristrip then paste over and click through the different version error, the pasted part is not oriented as it should. For instance I'll paste the stock in and it'll be 90degrees off and floating off the axis where it should be and as I keep pasting over parts they all keep going to different spots. So when I'm done it looks like the gun exploded and all the parts are just floating around.

So I assume the problem is in the exporting. How I've been doing it was open the vanilla nif then import my model in and orient and scale the gun to be in the same place as the old one. Then I detatch the parts of the model like in the original(base, trigger, hammer, lever, etc.) then I collapse and reset xforms and export using the nifskope plugin. I've tried all types of different settings in the export screen but none of that fixed the problem with how the items are arranged after being pasted. Also I didn't make the collision mesh because 3dsmax would always crash whenever I tried to use one.

Anyway I'm not asking for someone to compile, I just want some guidance in where I am going wrong. If you need any more information/screens to help me out let me know. Why must compiling always frustrate me? Oh and here's a screenshot of the model and skin.

If you paste over a NitriShape that's rotated 90 degrees with your own NitriShape, the original translation will persist if I recall correctly so you might want to check that out and see if that's the cause of the problem.

It's the the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that could be wrong if you have aligned and exported the model using the correct export options, but I haven't really been messing around with making new weapons yet.

Hello

I read your post and as I just redid the Lincoln rifle myself and had the same problem I may be able to help. Go to the Nitristrips block for the rifle, it should be number 58, the last one down on the FadeNode. Highlihgt the Nirtisrips and then go to the bottom of the NifScope into Block Details. Find Translation (space) Vector 3 (space) x, y, z . iF YOU HAVE ANYTHING OTHER THAN ALL ZEROS then that is your problem. Simply change the number values associated with x, y, and z to 0.000. Now go to the Rotation just under the Transalation and set them to Y 0.00 P 0.00 and R 0.00. You should see the stock Nif instantly switch to the proper alignment. The lever of the rifle will need some adjustment with Translation x, y, or z. I can't remember which I had to tweek but one needed it to align the lever to the proper position on the main gun stock Nif.

Hope this helps.
