Unresponsive new game install

I have a fresh game install (and 1.6 patch afterwards) issue that I can't seem to figure out. I thought it might be related to another problem I had with some earlier mesh/texture replacements and/or game saves, but I completely deleted the game, registry entries, and reinstalled it from scratch.

What happens is that I play the game for a few minutes, and all of a sudden it becomes unresponsive. What I mean by that is that whatever you are doing (i.e. dialog with another person, walking, standing still, etc.) the game will continue to do that forever. The game completely ignores keyboard and mouse input.

The computer is not locked up however, I can alt-tab back into windows and kill the game at will.

I also tried turning off my virus scanner, firewall, the latest version of Nvidia drivers, the previous drivers, DirectX upgrades, soundcard driver reinstalls, you name it. No other game I have does this, and I'm kind of at a loss right now.

Have you seen this before, and if so, what was the fix?

Thanks!

Can you package that in a WinRAR archive an upload it so I can use it too.

Sounds great...

Quick, someone kick me in the junk!

uh

Windows XP SP3 or do you use Vista?

It wouldn't hurt either to have fallout installed to it's own directory

the default directory is C:/program files/bethesda

But windows puts security risks inside system files

hence the move outside to it's own directory

running as admin, and also running as XP SP3 for vista

right click the fallout.exe then change the properties I think

to run as admin run as XP SP3

There's probably other vista stuff

You're probably the only person that can alt tab an it not kill the program instantly

You run any mods

if not why patch

or at least why patch past 1.0.15

most of the stuff in the patch past 1.0.15 is for SLI or crossfire, and then multi mod support

If you wanted to fix glitches then download unoffical fallout patch

There's only a few bug/glitch stuff that bethesda fixed

did you master update the patch with FO3edit, if you were using mods

This might help http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html

There might even be a better tweek guide, this one is getting old.

You could also follow the outdated but still good ultimate load order mod on nexus
