stebbinsd
Oblivion had already pushed the Xbox 360 and PS3 to their limits. Thus, to get Skyrim's graphics, Bethesda had to make significant sacrifices in other areas in order to save on processing. While a few make sense, there's one sacrifice they made that seriously hurts immersion: The disposition and barter systems. In Oblivion, disposition went from -100 to +100, though negative numbers were just shown as zero. This allowd for a lot of depth in how NPCs liked you. Sometimes, you could bypass entire legs of quests if an NPC's disposition was high enough. In Skyrim, however, to save on processing, the range of dispositions was shrunken to -4 to +4. This is a terrible hinderence to immersion, because it means that minor favors - such as giving someone a beer (Cosnach) - results in the same increase in disposition as major favors like saving their life (Darkeethus). It's ludicrous! Someone should bring back Oblivion's disposition and speechcraft system. Sure, it wasn't very immersive that you HAD to coerce at the same time that you admired them ("you gorgeous hot c*ntbag!"), nor was it very believable that coercion would do the exact opposite of make them like you less, but it's better than what we've got in Vanilla skyrim! Once that's done, you can use the new disposition system to correct the other atrocity: The trading and persuasion systems. In both system, your speech skill is the SOLE deciding factor in how you perform. Even with Skyrim's watered-down disposition system, this still doesn't make any sense. I personally think it should take a little bit more skill as a orator to pursuade my archnemisis of something than it woud take to pursuade my wife of the same thing! Subsequently, even without a complex disposition system, shouldn't the merchant's speech skill and fortify bribery effects also be included in the trade prices? I can understand getting rid of Oblivion's haggle system (with Skyrim, you could just assume that the haggling is done automatically), but this is ridiculous! Someone, please do this! Ichinzen2
i would just as well settle for oblivions barter system without the disposition. Too many times has my dumb finger clicked when i didn't want to and an item i didn't want to sell gets sold and i end up buying it back for more than i sold it. in the case of staves i just leave it as i'm sure ill come across another one eventually. There have even ben cases where i was buying instead of selling which means i lost money for no reason. plus if the vendor has a valuable item not a lot a gold and i have nough junk to make the difference im out of luck.
