TES CS making invalid files

OK, I'm following a tutorial on modding and I am doing simple vanilla stuff of changing ownership of a door and basement in a tavern. Then when I save it, CS closes out and when I go and try to use the plug in oblivion, it says invalid file, and when I try to load the file again in CS it shows nothing. WTH is wrong with it?

No problem.

Yes I did give the plug in a name. What would happen is I would go to File>save the save window would pop up. I'd type in a name and hit enter or click the ok button, at which point cs pretty much disappears(exits?) and the file that I made, the file and name show up as an app (with a second portion ending in .tes) but there would be nothing on it to load, and when I go to the oblivion loading window it would say "Invalid File" for File type, and would not be activated (checked).

you could try renaming as .esp but that probably won't fix it. I am going to make a couple guesses as to why it is doing that:

1. you are on vista (or windows 7)

2. you have oblivion installed to default location and do not have UAC dissabled

If those assumptions are correct to fix it either:

a ) reinstall oblivion to a non-system location (anything is good except program files, windows, and users)

or b ) disable UAC (go startmenu-controlpanel - users - your username - turn of UAC)

Only followed a third of what you said but what happened was, after leaving my computer off for most of the day I went back and figured it out. It had something to do with loading SI and K9 as well as the main Oblivion. So I only did the main oblivion and it worked. Which means I wont have all the SI K9 items handy for modding but hey, beggers cant be chosers.

If you have Shivering Isles installed, all the SI stuff is put into the Oblivion.esm file, so you always have the choice of using Shivering Isles stuff.

As for using KotN in your mods, you will have to use ESP mastering. Wrye Bash is probably the best tool for this job.
