HELP! Mods are not loading!

Game: 7 Days to Die A21.2 B30

Mods are deployed as far as is presented by Vortex, but none of them are being activated in-game. I do see the 'elevated' dialog pop-up occasionally, and hit it when able to, but it also disappears quite quickly. Do I need to turn off and on each of my mods and make sure to hit the elevate button for each one, or is there perhaps something else going on?

Installation is on a games-specific SSD.
Steam in F:/Steam.
Vortex is in F:/Vortex.
F:/VortexMods holds all the installed mods.

Mods installed shown below. They all show as deployed. There doesn't seem to be any easily located option to elevate these mods in the listing after enabling them.

The two donovan mods at the bottom of the list are from 7daystodiemods.com.

Update…

  1. Completely uninstalled Vortex.
  2. Purged every folder on the entire PC, on all drives, that have 'Vortex' in their names.
  3. Restarted the PC.
  4. Reinstalled Vortex to F:/Program Files/Vortex
  5. Added 7 Days to Die as a managed game.
  6. Left all settings on automatic.
  7. Installed one mod: EpicSpire's 66 slot BackPack — https://www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/3148
  8. Started new game.
  9. Open backpack.
  10. 45 bag slots.

What is happening? What is not happening?

I did recently update to Windows 11 Pro, having been running Windows 10 Pro.

But Vortex is supposed to be Windows 11 ready.

Right?

I'm having the same issue. I followed every post I could find. Mods are deployed, vortex file structure looks good, but nothing loads!

The only way I've found to mod 7 Days to Die is to put mods directly into the game's directory under Mods. If I'm doing that though, then what is vortex for?

I'm starting to think Vortex and 7DTD aren't really compatible.

Check if you have a folder call "mods" within your game's folder.
Then within that, check if you have ANOTHER folder called "mods" (so it's mods\mods)
If you have a folder mods\mods congrats, you are the victim of poorly coding by the modder maintaining the plugin in vortex for 7 Days to Die that doesn't allow you to ever .

To fix this:
0. Close vortex (make sure it's shut down)
1. Copy paste this in your explorer's address bar to open the game's launchersettings.json file:
%appdata%\7DaysToDie\launchersettings.json
If windows asks you how to open that file, select "Notepad" or any text editor.
2. Modify the line:
"AdditionalParameters" : "-UserDataFolder=D:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\7 Days To Die\\mods",
to
"AdditionalParameters" : "-UserDataFolder=D:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\7 Days To Die",
3. Restart vortex, purge all mods, then re-deploy them.

The mods will now be correctly installed under "7 Days to Die\Mods" instead of "7 Days to Die\Mods\Mods"

  • Thanks 1
