bben46
Before buying RAM, check the specifications on your motherboard, and also the specifications on the RAM you already have to make sure the new is compatible with both. Also, be sure you have enough empty RAM slots for what you want to install. If your MB has only 2 slots and you already have 2 - 512M sticks. You will have to remove both to add more RAM, in this case, 2 sticks of 1G to get 2G, or 2 sticks of 2G to get 4G. Often an OEM will use the cheapest way they can to get the amount of RAM specified. If you have 4 slots with 2 filled, then USUALLY, but not always you can add 2 1G sticks to the empty slots and have 3G. If I remember right, a 64 bit system can address up to 128G or RAM while a 32bit can only use 4G. However, most processors have a limit of something like 48G max. And the Motherboard BIOS might have an even lower value 6, 8 or 12 are common.
number1dad
vRAM is on your video card. You guys are thinking of integrated graphics accelerators that use shared memory. Your GPU uses the vRAM on the card, not your system RAM.
