10 Things You Should Do In Starfield

In short, you should explore the entire game, calmly, so as not to miss any of the stories told here! If you still want to play another game, do so and then return to Starfield whenever you want. Starfield is not a game to beat! You play the game in a hurry and miss the best of it.

10 things I recommend:

1 - Don't refuse any mission!

2 - Search every corner, read everything, listen to everything and open all the safes. Buy Digipicks whenever you can and save the game before using a Digipick. Some safes are empty, has  as it also happens in real life...

3 - Talk to everyone, but don't do it at the same time. Otherwise you will be left with a mountain of missions to complete! The big secret of this game is to do all the missions there are to do, but do them without rushing. Return to places you've already been to get more quests from other NPCs, after finishing a quest from an NPC.

4 - Avoid mixing missions!!! Whenever possible, when you are doing a mission, finish that mission, don't mix it with another one. Also only do the missions from a questline, until you finish the same one. If you do a small quest in the meantime, like going to kill a pirate in a certain place, that's not a problem. Where there might be a problem is if you mix missions and long questlines. Why?

Firstly, because you can lose the thread of the stories of each questline. Secondly, if in one of the missions for one of these questlines has a bug, you will have to repeat not only the affected missions of that questline, but also the missions of the other questlines that you have also done in the meantime. Yes, bugs sometimes happen, although patches have already reduced this possibility.

The only exception to this rule is the main questline. Make it whenever you feel like it and don’t be in a rush to finish it! I advise you to finish all the other important questlines first. These questlines are the Freestar Collective, Vanguard, Crimson Fleet, the personal missions of each Constellation companion, where you will learn about each one's past and even be able to marry one of them, and also the spy missions for Ryujin industries.

5 - When you want to talk to an NPC, save the game first! There are always several dialogue options and it's worth exploring them all, even if they seem absurd. Some of them are quite funny! You usually start by using the dialogue option at the bottom of the list and then use the others.

6 - Get married! Your first companion will be a blonde. Do missions with her whenever possible, until you manage to marry her. Delay the main quest until you can marry her. After you get married, advance to the main quest. Before or after you marry the blonde, you will discover a brunette. Maybe you're more attracted to the latter. If you have married the blonde, continue the main questline and in a certain mission more or less halfway through the main questline, choose to defend the Constellation headquarters. From there you have an open path to dating the brunette and even marrying her. You'll just have to follow the same tactic you used with the blonde, that is, do all the missions always accompanied by the brunette.

Note 1: When you are already committed to one of them, pay attention to what she says after you sleep. SPOILER! The blonde is more boring, but she is also the one who likes sex the most!

Note 2: There is a topic on Reedit that explains how to marry the blonde and the brunette. It's exploiting a weak point in the game. You don't need to do that. If you marry the blonde as quickly as possible, always do the missions with her and from a certain point in the main mission you will also be able to date and then marry the brunette.

7 - During the main questline, you will have to go to the Moon and then to the Earth. On the Moon, explore every corner and read and listen to every record you find. On Earth you must do exactly the same!!! Don't hurry. For me, this is the highlight of the game, the moment when you discover why the Earth is uninhabitable.

8 - When you do the Crimson Fleet questline, you will meet an annoying woman, who is second in the leadership chain. After you manage to join the Crimson Fleet, always use the dialogue option that can irritate her the most. You'll see some fun parts.

9 - Be very careful with mods! There are mods that can introduce bugs into the game (it happened to me). These dangerous mods are those that change the mechanics of the game (mods that change scripts). Mods that change textures or put NPCs naked or make them wear sexier space suits, are not a big problem. Next year, after the Creation Kit, Bethesda's tool for seeing the game inside and making mods comes out, it will be safer to use mods that change the game's mechanics.

Note: There are some mods that change the look of the game's menus. They are safe mods and I recommend some of them. SFSE is also one of the main mods for this game and I recommend it!

10 - And this is the most important advice! Manually save the game frequently. The game does autosaves, but these generally disappear when you exit the game, leaving only the last autosave. If a bug happens in a savegame, it's a good idea to have a lot of manual savegames, so you don't have to go back too far in the game.

Have fun!

PS: Don't pay attention to those who hate this game. I intend to make another topic in which I will explain why is this happening with this game. Suffice it to say that many of those who hate this game are those who can't play it or who had to play it in a very short period of time. And at the root of this hatred is money, always money...
