Trying to get back into Skyrim with mods...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.  I have not played Skyrim in several years.  I used to know how to get all my mods set up etc, but have kind of forgotten how to do it.  I need a little help in getting back on my feet.  First of all, I know I need a mod list program.  Wasn't there one called mod organizer or somesuch?  Where exactly to I DL it from?  2nd, I am old school, having played the original Skyrim back on 11/11/11, so I do not want to use Vortex.  F Vortex in my opinion. 3rd...I know I definitely want to try some recent mods like ones that give a whole bunch of new lines to NPCs.  4th...I have heard there are a lot of new graphics mods, to make the game more realistic looking.  Could somebody give me a hint on the latest, most realistic ones?

Thanks ahead of time to anybody who has time to help!

Mod Organizer 2 is what you are looking for ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/6194 ).  That said, once you get past the learning curve for Vortex, it can be much less picky than MO2 in many ways.  But, I am sure that MO2 is not that much different from the original MO.

If you choose to use Engine Fixes and SkyUI, there are some adjustments that need to be made to work with the latest 1.6.1130, look at their mod comments for details.  Also, there is another Beth update for SSE/AE expected soon, which might mess up the SKSE dll based mods again.

A Nexus page to help tracking SKSE64 mod compatibility ( https://modding.wiki/en/skyrim/users/skse-plugins ).

There is a plethora of graphics mods, I basically use Pfuscher's stuff, Realistic Water 2, and some of the various landscape/mesh patches available, along with Auto Parallax.  Dyndolod 3.0 is much more capable, but it seems to be much more picky than v. 2, and I have put off trying to get it to run.  You may have more luck, starting fresh.  Wanking Skeever and JaySerpa have a lot of patches, as does AndrealphusIII WRT bug fixes and consistency.  Many more animation mods, but I haven't changed over to Nemesis, too much older stuff working with FNIS.  I get tired of experimenting.  JoopvanDie has a trio of new locations, search with Folkstead, Haafstad, and Nyhus.  I think that a very well-regarded mod called Chanterelle is another new place, I haven't gotten around to checking it out yet.

Ancient Dwemer Metal and Dwemer Pipeworks Reworked help the Dwemer stuff so much.  I also like Dwemer Gates Don't Reset so you avoid a lot of bugs/problems if you enter a Dwemer ruin prematurely.

There are incredible mods being made WRT lighting, such as removing light source limits, and the Community Shaders.

Enough of this WOT, I was scanning my 1400+ mod list, not counting pure texture mods.  I hope this helps a bit.
