What types of mods should I actually be playing with?

I'm getting sick of getting my ass kicked by enemies added by mods. I can't play with any creature mod, or any quest mod. Even freaking Helgen Reborn is impossible for me. It doesn't add new enemies as best as I can tell, but it does add an ungodly number of them to various vanilla dungeons. How am I supposed to handle that? I just can't kill anything fast enough. Doesn't help that I chose to go mage due to some of my other quest lines, so I keep getting slaughtered by anything that gets into melee range.

It seems that I can't use any mods at all. What am I supposed to use? I can't play quest mods or creature mods. What, am I supposed to just keep playing through the same vanilla questlines over and over with just graphics mods and game-breaking 'overhauls'? Why does every mod author assume every player can play f*#@ing dark souls? NOT EVERYONE IS A f*#@ING PRO PLAYER. MAKE MODS FOR PEOPLE THAT AREN'T f*#@ING GODS YOU BIGOTS.

I admit, maybe I'm just getting sick of playing the same game over and over. The reason I do that though is because I have no other games. I did in the past, but they were all taken from me through forced updates. Skyrim LE is all I have left. I refuse to buy new games too because who the hell in their right mind would buy something that they know is going to be DESTROYED BY ITS CREATORS. Maybe when updates are finally classified as VIRUSES like they should be. They destroy your programs, disrupt your work, lead to endless frustration. isn't that what the definition of a virus is? What if someone deleted a document or picture on your computer? Or some other file? Or a program you yourself wrote? How is that any different from what 'updates' are now?
 

Sorry, I'm just having a shitty time with this game and I'm getting beyond sick of not being able to do a damned thing about it. I can't play with mods, I can't play any other game. What type of mods can someone WHO ISN'T A f*#@ING GOD play? Like I said, it seems I'm stuck with just graphics mods. Who would play with just that? I've done every quest more times than I can count, the same with every possible build in this game, and I have nothing else to go and play for a while. I either play this, or I don't play anything at all. I have quit this thing for months at a time. And what was I playing instead? NOTHING BECAUSE I HAVE NOTHING AND HAVEN'T FOR YEARS AND YEARS NOW.

Maybe I need to get back onto making games for myself. Sadly, what I have made doesn't work right on linux and there's not a damned thing I can about it. I thought I could keep my programs with linux and not have to deal with windows stupid s#*! anymore. Was I wrong? Should I just abandon computers completely? They aren't worth s#*! anymore, and they just keep getting worse. For example, I recently had an experience with windows 11. Our internet has been lagging really bad for months now. Yesterday we finally found the answer; it wasn't the cables, there wasn't a damned thing wrong with them. The problem was WINDOWS 11 WAS EATING UP OUR ENTIRE BANDWIDTH 24/7 WITH ITS STUPID ONEDRIVE PROGRAM. So yeah, windows 11 on ONE computer rendered every other computer inoperable. Wtf? Thank god I don't have windows anymore. Of course, that hasn't saved me fully from modern tech. For a while I was looking into retrocomputer, seriously, BECAUSE I'M SO BEYOND SICK OF WHAT MODERN COMPUTERS HAVE BECOME. I despise them, they're all nothing but worthless little pieces of garbage, and I'm sick of trying to get these stupid hunks of junk to work. What help if their RELIABILITY WASN'T GOING DOWN DAY BY DAY EVER SINCE THE 2000S. f*#@ modern computers, f*#@ modern tech. I genuinely can't hope for the internet to die. And yes, that's going to happen, just ask anyone who works in tech. You won't find a single optimistic soul. These things can burn in hell for all I care at this point. Death to the internet, death to modern computers. Death to everything tech has become.

Seriously, no suggestions? No one even telling me that I should stop modding this game?

I can't play with any creature mods, dungeon mods, new lands mods, quest mods, I've never been able to stand even vanilla followers so no follower mods, and I can't even run an ENB due to playing on linux. What is left? Overhaul and magic mods that break your game? I used to make load orders with over 200 plugins, but now I can't even make one with a dozen? What am I supposed to do? Just quit Skyrim and let it finally die?

If you are playing Skyrim LE you are on the wrong forum.

I would advise you to post on the LE forum.

One of the great things about the Elder Scroll games I have always appreciated is that you can make the game as hard or as easy as you desire.

With levels from Novice to Legendary, and mods that give you overpowered weapons and armor you can make your character as powerful as you like.

While I have never played a mage character I am confident that you can build an over powered character with a little searching for mods.

I did think about installing mods to make the game easier. However, I know nothing about that so I wouldn't know how to do it. Besides, it would put the vanilla questions out of wack with everything added by mods. I did use to change the difficulty slider, but that causes all manner of glitches so I'm not really willing to do it anymore. Why do all mod authors do this without exception? Its preventing people like me from enjoying their mods! in the case of Helgen Reborn, it doesn't really help much. Its dungeons are nothing but narrow tunnels which just makes dealing with its enemies even harder (why add f*#@ing skeletons that take 20 hits to kill that then respawn as another enemy that takes 20 hits to kill too? wtf? I just turned off the game in the middle of the dungeon because I got sick of sitting their spam clicking for minutes on end for every single enemy). As if the narrow passages aren't bad enough, you're forced to take a worthless follower with you in those areas. Either they're behind you and can't do s#*!, or they're in front of you making it so you can't do anything at all. Wtf? I'm not too impressed with the muffled audio quality of the voice acting. Why does this mod get rated so highly? Brodual listed it once as the best quest mod ever made. I don't see that. Yeah, its surprisingly amusing watching Helgen get rebuilt, but that's literally the only thing I've enjoyed so far.

If I had xEdit working, I would actually open up these mods and set everything's stats to vanilla. Playing these mods, I've realized I don't want anything with even so much as a stat change. Everything has to be a 100% reskin of a vanilla creature, with the exactly same abilities and numbers, not one thing changed. Guess if I want that, I'll just have to take all these creature mods I have and use the models to make my own that's to my liking. Doesn't help me with the Relic Hunter challenge though. I have to play with Immersive Creatures and Skyrim Underground to complete it, and ontop of that I would need to play with all these stupid quest mods I'm trying to play for the first time. Does no one care about accessibility? How can people enjoy their mods when they can't handle them? What am I supposed to do? Turn the game down to novice whenever I have to fight an enemy one of these mods adds? Don't think it would make that much difference; they're equivalent to playing on legendary. Turning the difficulty down to novice would probably only put them around expert.

I was going to pass on responding here, after reading the initial post, but I've seen you post before and always seemed kool. Another reason is you are talking about LE and, as mentioned, this is the SE forum. Also, to get it out there first, I know nothing about LE. But your posts are really confusing me, and it sounds like you are more confused, so I thought I"d respond.

IDK why you say you cannot have mods, etc, again, IDK about LE, but mods made for my second love of the game. Know also I am using the latest game version .1170 and AE. Mods allow me to build a game scalable with my player. I did not like that my character got stronger than most I faced before I even explored everything. Now with mods I can get a player to higher levels and still find plenty of challenge. I like the challenge though. I find no fun in walking through an adventure and one shot of whatever, the enemy is dead. My last go at modding I did do the Helgen Reborn, not sure if I completed all of it before my life went upside down from covid, but I do not remember the kind of difficulty you describe. Same now with immersive creatures. I like the challenges it brings. Wolves are pack animals and always thought it unfitting I'd only be attacked by one or two. With that mod it makes sense to me. I don't like I can walk out of an inn in town and get attacked by a wolf, but I am sure if there is not a patch to fix it, I can live with it or learn to adjust it. IDK about "difficulty slider" as all I see in SE is selections for novice, etc., but that is a way to control it some.

Have you considered updating to the latest version and modding that. Maybe the problem is all the old outdated mods from LE. Also, Skyrim Underground is NOT an easy mod as I have read, also why I have it added and am working through conflicts with it now, but the author recommends not to even go in it unless level 10 to start. Yes, I realize you most likely are a much higher level, but thought it should be mentioned. Another available mod for SE is The Choice is Yours, I think it is called. It allows you postpone quests until you are ready to do them OR at a highest enough level to try. This is one reason I like the alternate start live another life mod as it allows me to postpone the main quest. I don't want to fight dragons at lower levels OR if I have to it should be WAY harder to kill one, I'd think.

You don't specifically mention why you cannot use mods beyond, from  what I understand, that they make the play difficult. Again, I know nothing about LE or the issues people may face using that version, but none of what you said fits what I have seen playing SE with mods. I've only ever, thus far, found one mod where I thought the author, in my opinion, over did it. That is with the mod The Marshlands, and from what I have read, the author made it clear it is HARD. Hard I can deal with but when I walk in as a level 1 and am attacked by like 5 plus hagravens and more spiders than I could count in the like 3 or 4 hits I survived, ALL AT ONCE, I think I'd say that is overboard. And many others have responded the same in my research of it. Problem is, and for the whole 40 seconds I got to see the area, I loved it. It is sooooo fitting in my book. So it resides in my LO not activated until I can research if there is a mod or a way to scale it down some. But that is the flexibility mods bring to our game. Worse comes, I'll stay out of it until a higher level and or dial down the difficulty level if necessary. My point is, with mods you have the choices to make it how you want, again referencing SE.

I followed a guide on steam for building a large LO. The author really did a great job walking one through it and incorporating so many game fix/tweak mods. I am not advocating you update, just maybe do some more research as to why you are having the difficulty you explain. Also note, starting a pure spell chucking character is NOT an easy feat to deal with for the beginning levels. Even in D & D it was hard to get one through the beginning stages. Maybe lean more towards a spell sword type until you make it to some higher levels for more powerful spells, then return to full spells. Anyways, I will post a link to the guide I am referencing below for your review. That author, Vlad 254, also has other links to guides he has made for older versions too. I am not sure if he has ones for LE though. I was doing research then to determine if I wanted to try modding the latest version or not. The guide helped me to answer that question. I'll leave that info for you to find in it as not to start a version debate here. Just know I currently passed 400 plugins and my game runs rock solid at 60 fps flat. My hinderance is a small GC so I have to watch textures, etc I use. Note also, the guide does not require a monster GC to use. The author, if you click his avatar to go to his page, has several other guides and modding info write-ups and links there. Maybe something there will help and I hope this helps in some way as I feel like I am posting nonrelevant material with it being about LE. Just feel better its in the SE forum lol. Good luck!

I'm not suffering from any glitches (unless maybe I'm experiencing ones that buff enemies), and I already know how to make super long mod orders. If this isn't normal, then why are enemies so op? Also, I did try to make a paladin build that used one-handed to deal with these mods. It made no difference. My damage wasn't any better, and even with heavy armor and block things from SiC and Skyrim Underground could still one-shot me. I didn't try that with helgen reborn though (I was trying to find a build that could handle the monsters added by those two mods, I switched to testing out quest mods because I was sick of trying to find a way to survive against SiC). However, I'm suffering the same problems I did with Skyrim Underground. Things are just as strong as those things. I'm level 16 btw, and I even grinded conjuration for a bit so I could get a frost atrnoach to tank. That doesn't help one bit though. The narrow passage ways obviously don't accommodate a frost atronach well. Also, I'm using firebolt against these things, and I have one rank of the fire damage perk, plus potions that buff my destruction by 30%. I have no problem at all against vanilla enemies. Modded enemies are the only things giving me problems.

Also, as I stated, I'm not a good player and never have been. Maybe you simply can't tell the difference because all these enemies are easy to you. To me, the difference is more obvious than the sun. I can't help that I suck. Why would you think I would mention 'accessibility'? I have thought in the past that I need to just quit action games and stick to turn-based strategy games. None exist anymore though, and trying to play the Civ games again I came to the realiziation that they're more about rng than strategy. I don't care to play those anymore at all, and they're the only non-action games still being made. I do know there's been complaints for years about how turn-based rpgs aren't be made anymore. For many people in the past, those were the only types of games they could play. Now I'm thinking I'm part of that crowd too. Modded Skyrim simply isn't a game for someone like me who could never handle Dark Souls for even a second. Honestly, I've been afraid about posting videos of me playing this game on youtube; people would probably ridicule how cartoonishly bad I am. Besides, I don't see how I could make videos of me doing this relic hunter challenge. I mean, how can I do it when I can't even freaking complete it? I can barely even survive to level 10, and even when I do get past that it doesn't help (I'm level 16 right now to give you an idea).

I just suck and I can't help it. I've always sucked, there's only been a handful of games I've ever been able to complete in my life. Skyrim is a game I've completed yes, but most mods are not.

As for SE, I refuse to play that because I like mods and I despise beyond all imaginging the cc garbage that bethesda has force-installed into the game. Normally you would get tossed in prison if you do something like that, and they did this to millions of people are no one gives two shits! Wtf? I can't help that the world is f*#@ing crazy and keeps getting more insane. Can't we even game without having crimes committed against us? Seriously? Is there no release from the bullshit this worthless country has become? Is every single part of our culture nothing but abuse and atrocities? Can't anything go f*#@ing right?

I need to either just stop modding this game, or stick to making my own games. Thinking I really need to do the latter if I do want to 'mod'.

Lol, yes, I VERY much know where you are coming from. I very much enjoy games of strategy, but have not met anyone that liked them as much as myself. Not to sound ancient, I still have the board game Stratego. When my D&D group split up, life stuff with relocation, I never found a replacement until I discovered Oblivion. That and skyrim are the only ones I play. With ES VI having no foreseeable release, modding is the only way I can bring life back to this game. On top of that, and after I discovered mods (played on console for years), I was wondering why they didn't make the game like that. Seeing the possibility of a modded game to vanilla is like comparing checkers to chess, and I don't think that is an accurate statement but lack for better than chess.

Now I don't want to start a debate about Beth. I only come to these forums to learn, pay forward what someone did for me, and maybe enjoy some friendly conversations. I see a LOT of rants about Beth from people on Steam. Seems like the first thing they do when their game breaks is point the finger at Beth. As our views are somewhat alined, I'll share my thoughts. Yes, corporate greed is an out of control monster like falsified, brainwashing info on social media. In my life things have only gotten smaller or less of, and the price is more. Doesn't seem like the corporate world can come up with any other ideas to increase revenue than screw consumers.

With Beth I see it the same and also different. I am not updated on the gaming scene over the last four years and only heard mix reviews about it. Things like the CC content in AE is all free mods they packaged and sold. Now I got to get into what I didn't want to that the author of the guide points out in the guide. Evidently there are fixes and updates in that package not found elsewhere. What I feel people fail to realize is Beth OWNS that game!!!!!! It is like us having windows. We purchase the right to USE it, but we don't own it and therefore have NO say over it.

People constantly complaining on Steam about how their game broke because of some update, etc. Uhhh, NO, the game is NOT broke. Remove all the mods and "the game" Beth sold them the rights to use still works. It was never meant to or be guaranteed to work with mods. Use auto references is a great analogy I used before and just finished reading one on steam with a person blaming Beth. One goes and buys a new car with a full warranty and decides to add aftermarket performance parts (mods in this example) to gain more HP and it blows up the engine ("broke their game" for the analogy) THAT is not the manufactures fault, problem, OR CARE!!!! They made the auto (game) to make money, not for guarantee on what consumers choose to do with it. Therefore, they are not going to honor a warranty OR even feel the slightest remorse over what someone CHOSE to do to a product NOT specifically designed for it. Now please don't take this as I am emphasizing this points to you, it's for the ranting trolls that maybe following. In my book, if it wouldn't hold up in an HONEST court of law its just someone but hurt stating their opinion. I let them state theirs, read it, and if I don't have anything contributing and positive to help, I move on. That and those kinds of threads have enough "opinions" and they can stay there, so please respect mine here and don't attack me with those opinions. It's why I don't share in those threads.

So back to our discussion. Do I think the AE update was a lack of good marketing strategy to make money, absolutely. Am I glad they had to do more than package free mods, if that is completely true as I have not researched it (nor care to), and fix some of their shabby work, most likely had to for the package to work, yep. Do I think the update is over priced, maybe, I'd have to do more resaerch, but, it was twenty bucks. And like I mentioned on steam, I most likely couldn't buy three beers for that on a weekend at a tavern for entertainment, let alone be enjoying/playing a decade plus from now. I just don't let it update and back everything up.

I cannot change the world, but I don't have to let it change or control me either. Things will never quite moving forward, AND corporate greed will not stop until people unite together.......and people are not about uniting for the common good much anymore. Most are only about themselves. So, I see no point in not enjoying what I like to make a single stance that will do nothing more than remove that joy from your life. It sounds like you have plenty of skills and quite knowledgeable in this area. More so than myself. I am once again learning so I can have more joy from it in my life. I'm sure you know what it is to start learning modding from nothing as most do. If you want it, make it happen is all I am saying. Don't let the situation control you or your life. I feel confident none of the modding greats before us quit because their game broke. They just adjusted and moved on because they don't want it out of their life. I think people ranting over "their game breaking" is an example of my favorite quote......."If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" - Albert Einstein..........I've never heard of Aurthmoor, Gopher, Gamerpoets, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc point the finger at Beth for breaking their game. Your car analogy isn't the same thing. Breaking the game with mods is your fault yes, but that's not what's happening here. What bethesda is doing is equivalent to a car company breaking into your garage and sabotaging your car so it either won't accept certain parts anymore, or just stopping it from working all together (a common complaint around the time the last update came out, and one that persisted for MONTHS after people foolishly bought the full AE and found the game wouldn't boot at all mods or not).

This is vandalism, sabotage. Also, since when does a company 'own' products that they've sold? Used to be, if you bought something, you could do whatever the hell you wanted with it. You bought a table, you could use it for whatever you deemed fit, you could re-paint, decorate it, or even tear it down for parts. Games were similar. You bought a cart, you could do whatever the hell you wanted with it and the company couldn't do a damned thing (well, unless you count that time Nintendo rigged a donkey kong game to delete its own data if you tried to use a gameshark on it, without ANY warning that could happen, causing people to lose a game they paid hard money for because they did something they had no idea would destroy it).

Granted, this isn't unique to bethesda. Seemingly every game today is getting updated until it dies. Terraria for instance bears practically no resemblence to the game it was at launch. Hell, with the last update they even upped the difficulty, making it impossible for people like me to even play the game outside of its equivalent to creative mode. This is why I don't have any games other than Skyrim. I own dozens on steam, but they were all turned into games that I never would've bought due to updates. Its a rampant problem called 'death by update'. Why are we not allowed to just enjoy our games? Why do companies have to act like every game is a live service game that will only be playable as long as they allow it? I don't play games like that for that very reason, but it seems you can't escape that even with games that don't have an online component. Programs today are just as worthless as World of Warcraft is, or any other dead MMO. Its sickening and I'm getting beyond sick of companies tearing things away from me that I bought from them. Our rights are being taken away every single day. We live in a totalitarian nation, and this isn't nearly as bad as it can get. I don't even feel safe having internet access anymore, BECAUSE I DON'T TRUST OUR GOVERNMENT TO KNOW EVEN THE MOST BANAL FACT ABOUT ME. Actually, I feel it is the exact same thing. And your post reflects so. We are just taking two different views of the situation.

You are comparing physical products to digital. You may own that car, but you do not own the program/logic running/controlling it. You can pull a part off and sell it on ebay but you try to sell that program and not good if caught.

That IS today's corporate world!!! Heck, look at the lost days of the "shade tree mechanic". I take my auto to a mechanic now and they need a computer to tell them what is wrong with it. I still try to do my own auto work, but good gravy. One has to be a mechanic, pc tech, and part scientist to do anything. Thank heaven they haven't found a way away from the standard workings of an internal combustible engine. Where you think all these special drive bolts etc came from. Did we REALLY need a torx bit. What was the standard hex not working anymore, cause it sure seems stronger to me. Seems like everytime I turn around another "special" tool is required to do a certain job. ALL that is what you are making reference to. It's just another TYPE of tree in the SAME forest is all.

Now I am sorry, but that is HILARIOUS!!!!!!! My friend, that IS capitalism!!!!!!!!!!! As this is a world wide forum, I am not speaking for anything other than the US, BUT i have always found it completely ignorant of people to disregard the past of what humanity has shown itself capable of. History repeats itself. It is just people look at only the single tree and miss it is in the same forest. There WAS a time here in the US that capitalism ruled. People worked for a company check that could only be cashed at a company store for funds that could ONLY be spent at a COMPANY STORE with NO rights, workplace safety, NOTHING! If you support what is creating it, shouldn't that be what is looked at. Just saying. See what time you have to play a game when times return and your work week almost doubled. When generations to come don't even know what a wolf is because some rich prick shot them knowing they couldn't get into trouble because the animal wondered off its protected grounds (yes, that really just happened not long ago, but what the hell if its and endangered species. They can sell viewing tickets of the mount on the wall to our  grand children to MAKE MORE MONEY OF US). Or what are things like national parks because they have already drilled and strip mined everything else to death those are the only places left for them to make MONEY. And don't even get me started on making Native Americans FIGHT for the most worthless land we could give them AFTER we stole theirs.......because CAPITALISM is powering corporations. Yeah, I don't support capitalism. I have signed HUNDREDS of petitions protecting ALL the things I have mentioned here and TONS not covered. Hell I even had to sign petitions to stop the corporate pricks from mining the Grand Canyon. Another to save the Snake River. Ones to protect federal lands in Alaska harboring endangered species. And going on for some time now they want to put a nuclear waste dump on the edge of the greatest fresh water source this nation has......the great lakes around Michigan. You could go on and on, lol, I haven't even BEGUN with what I know or have done to stand against it. This has gone off topic. My question was what types of mods could I use, since I can't handle any mod that adds new enemies? I can't run any creature mods, and no quest mods. What else am I supposed to do? Just play with survival and graphics mods? I guess follower mods are fine, but I've never really found a use for them since I mostly play mages and stealth builds, both of which are NOT follower friendly. Maybe I need to start playing builds that do work with followers, but that just seems to be so limited. Guess I'll be looking over Fudgemuppet's warrior builds to try and find something.

edit: Well, decided to do a search for everything that isn't a creature mod, follower mod, dungeon, quest, or new lands mod. This left me with nothing but survival mods, graphics mods, equipment, and overhauls. How is any of this going to make playing through the same damned quests yet again any more enjoyable? Can I just play with nothing simply because no one makes creature mods that are in line with vanilla? I can't handle that, so how am I supposed to use anything? Am I just not allowed to play Skyrim anymore? Its starting to look like that. Like I've said, not everyone is a f*#@ing pro. Not everyone could seriously compete in an esport. Why not make mods for people like me who couldn't survive dark souls for even a single second?
