Exporting DDS textures shows up as all black ingame. TR 1-3 remastered

So I've been trying to edit textures for Lara's clothing and some other textures. I'm using paint.net and Gimp. And I have the plugins for BC7 compression. Which is the one used in the games. But when I export the textures and use them in the game, they all show up as pitch black. This happens with each of the editing softwares. I'm assuming it has to do with the mipmaps. Because I've tried to make the files without generating mipmaps, what happens then is that the textures are visible from very up close, but then fade into grey as the camera moves out. I've tried every solution I can imagine but can't get the textures to work ingame. If there was a way to edit a DDS texture and then export it with the same mipmaps? or something like that. is the problem something else, that I'm not understanding?  I need help
