Rizaun deleted his no spiders mod for a mystery reason, and made it harder for arachnophobes to discover the game.

I saw Dragon's Dogma on sale on Steam a few days ago and wanted to buy it. I was considering buying the game on Switch, but held back since I'm a big arachnophobe and it near-impossible to succeed with modding any games on Switch. Now that I have a Steam Deck, I was more open to discovering the game, but I wanted to be sure that there was already a mod to remove spiders beforehand. I found Rizaun's mod through a Google search, but this Google search also revealed that this mod was made private on Nexus Mods. The page for the mod said that the mod was privated to fix data on the page, but I figured it was just a placeholder reason, and the real reason was a mystery and only Rizaun knew why.

I searched for any other alternative mods, but all the relevant pages only referenced Rizaun's mod as the only mod to help with arachnophobia.

So, I shot Rizaun a message on Nexus Mods. Maybe he found an issue with the mod and was fixing it in secret. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. I inquired about this mod in my message and suggested that it would be nice to see the mod made public again soon, given the significant discount the game had on Steam. I leave Nexus Mods alone and spend the weekend with my girlfriend.

I come back to Nexus Mods Sunday night to check in and see if he was willing to bring the mod back. I noticed the read receipt in my inbox indicating that he read my message, but there was no response. I checked the page for the actual mod itself. Maybe he brought it back and didn't tell me. I've come to find it deleted: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/121

I bet it was a perfectly good mod. One that might've not needed any fixing at all. And he deleted it. To spite me? Idk. I just feel super bummed out that he had the only no spiders mod available for Dragon's Dogma, and he himself chose to delete the mod despite probably knowing how big of a benefit it was for arachnophobes like me. We struggle to play games with spiders as we can't look at the screen when they are present, for when we do, we can only look with crippling horror. It is a really big bummer. I heard good things about the Dragon's Dogma franchise, and I really wanted to give the game a chance. He took that chance away from me by making a very conscious but likely mean-spirited decision.

I can't imagine being this entitled. Mod authors don't owe you anything. They do this work for free. If you're so passionate about this, take an afternoon to learn how to code it yourself. You said yourself it's a simple mod, should be easy right? If you're too lazy to do that, there's plenty of mod authors offering commissions. Something like this would probably cost you $10 max.

There are all kinds of reasons why a mod author may want to delete their mods.

- Not wanting to keep it updated anymore

- Not being happy with the code

- Privacy concerns

- Disagreeing with business decisions made by the platform

- Losing interest in the game or modding as a whole

- Tired of petulant children harassing him to keep it updated 👀

- Just felt like it

All of these reasons are completely valid because it is HIS work he's providing FOR FREE and he reserves the right to take it down any time he wants. Sucks you have this phobia but it's nobody's job to manage but your own.

And by the way, he's deleted ALL of his mods. To jump to the conclusion that he did this just to slight arachnophobes is silly.
