mechine
Freak... Idk I'd freak too. WHAT IS THIS MESS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. Without a data folder you can't play the game When you install the game you install the data folder There's not much in it but yeah it's a data folder. You're just going to have to bite the bullet an start over as far as mods Which isn't a bad thing, those mods you were using were outdated and useless. By having to download again you get new versions that are updated. VISTA huh, You should have done like me an bought the very last copy of Windows XP they made. Anyway, pretty much you wana install fallout 3 outside of program files not on the desktop either, some guy did that which is a terible idea for the matter you should clean off your desktop as much as you can I don't even load a background for my desktop, it's black. Second you wana run fallout as a admin, and also run as Win XP SP3 these are properties when you right click the fallout.exeThere's probably even other stuff that pertains to Vista The main thing is to install it to C:/bethesda softworks, or whateverthe default path is C:/program files/bethesda softworks, or somethingWhich windows vista if not all windows will apply security risks to itwhich bite you in the arse later on, if you have two hard drives I'd put fallout out on the one that doesn't have the windows system files in itmoving it to D:/bethesda softpoop or whatever If you have only one grapics card, then run patch 1.0.15 plus the "fake patch" mod you'll have to find the fake patch mod an download it an follow the link in the discription to find out how to do it on a post on another site. If you have two grapics cards or even 10 LOLZ SLI crossfire whateversthen you should only use patches past 1.0.35, but 35 is kind of crappy an crashes 10X timesWhich means you should use 1.5 plus FO3edit's master update or 1.6 plus FO3edit master updateMore simple than the fake patch way, all you have to do is download FO3edit then either patch 1.5 or 1.6 Run the patch, install all the mods, then find the FO3edit.exe right click create a short cutright click the short cut an add space -masterupdate to the target lineTarget "C:/FO3edit.exe or something" -masterupdateDon't change what's in the quotes just add the space and -masterupdatethen run the shortcut, it will prompt then start loadingif there is a error then it stops the processwhich you view the text find out what erroredthen FO3edit says to ask the modder that wrote that mod to fix itgood luck with that, you can open the mod that caused the error with GECk an set it to active, it should prompt to auto fix itwhich you should select yes, then save, then run master update againif it still causes a error delete that mod an move ononce master update finishes without error click the X to close it which will auto save it, then just run master update again if you add in new mods. Now providing how good you are at installing then the end result will either be a nightmareor a well working version of fallout 3, you should install everything manually even though the auto install is really easy, the manual way you will see stuff that is a red flag showing that you shouldn't use it, As I install I place Zip/rar files that I end up installing in a folder named done, then the ones that throw up red flags in a folder named not donedone as in, installed done, not done as in, not done because it would mess up my install If you have no idea what you are doing, which pretty much discribes everybody here then you're in trouble. You can use the ultimate load order, it's a outdated but still it has pretty good mods in it, plus it's a super clean install that will teach you how to do stuffYou can always ditch the ultimate load order then reinstall making your own with what you learned You can check which version of fallout you have by finding the fallout.exe not the shortcutthen right click an select the version tab. as late in the game as it is you might get a disc that isn't version 1.0 You can either download 200 mods then go thru it installing an maybe end up with 150 that you can use together, and then 50 or so in the not done folder that you can either editor delete. But when you get done installing the load order will be FUBAR, with fallout.esm in the middle an everything mixed up. plan on a few hours fixing it You wana watch out for stuff that mods the same stuff, like eyes/race/hairAlso loot lists or like weather, they all pretty much conflictbut that doesn't stop us from trying. MMM goes at the bottom of the load order, compatibility patches go after the main esp they patch for like MMM.espMMM FOOK.esp <---patchMMM.RI.esp <--- patchMMM.options You should probably install then create a restore pointthen patch, then install mods, then master updatethen actually get the thing to work You should download FOMM, FOSE, FO3edit, and GECK Pay attention to versions of things, some versions don't work or just outdated Defrag your hard drives, update your drivers. I'd start with that or start by looking into Vista tweeks for fallout 3 ultimate load order would get you going a little faster too, as all the steps for your plan are thereall you do is do it, instead of looking for stuff, But then you probably won't like most of the stuff in the ultimate load order, which doesn't matter because you're just learning an can make a better one later. They might even cover Vista issues or the http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html tweek guide will. Sorry man I just don't know what to tell ya I have a retail disc version, and yes it has a data folder. Quit tip toeing around an installing like a noob, You're an admin not a nooby nub nub :D Random crashes are because of mod incompatablity or system being taxed to much crashing before you get to the load screen would be a red flag for a noob load order or worse You get lagged when running around, stop and wait a second or you can crash from system being taxed. Let us know when you get some stuff to work with.
