New to F4VR... seems I picked a bad time to try get mods running!

Howdy,

Long story short I got caught up in the Fallout hype and decided to play FO4 for the first time. Bought F4VR + GOTY and attempted to install FO4VR Essentials... after failing to get it running over two nights (then doing some homework) it seems timing isn't on my side, and the updates are the cause of my issues.

I'm assuming this is a bit of a lost cause at the moment. I wondered if anyone had any recommendations on bare minimum mods I should install (that aren't broken!)- or if its worth playing vanilla just to get into the game? I remember being really disappointed by vanilla Skyrim when I played it years ago on VR, so was hoping to at least tweak the base game slightly.

I realise people likely have their own issues at the moment, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated... but I understand totally if the answer is "everything is broke right now, go away" 🙂

Cheers,

Trillium

Fallout 4 VR hasn't received an update since 2018 if I'm not mistaken, only Fallout 4.

In 2019, BGS edited the FormID range utilizable by mods which rendered many mods, made with the Creation Kit after November 2019, incompatible with Fallout 4 VR (without manual compatibility patching which hasn't became very common).

In April 25, BGS updated Fallout 4 but not Fallout 4 VR, so the VR version still has a very limited mod support.

Making mods compatible with it is not easy if you're not familiar with modding tools (sometimes editing the mod's record flag is enough, sometimes one has to edit and recompile all scripts that came with it).

if you are brand new to game, yes it is still worth playing just the vanilla version. unfortunately as the above poster mentioned vr has gotten very little love but hopefully that will change soon. Myself i just play the Fallout 4 pc version and is widely supported for mods. i would still play the vanilla version on vr then when done maybe look into pc goty version if still interested in the game. main reason i love this game is the modding community is always coming up with new ideas to add to the game so it always feels like a new play through for me and often like a whole different game.  Thanks
