acidzebra Posted February 8 Posted February 8 As entertaining as the ban/warning section sometimes is, it's worth remembering that the nexus community is 59 million people strong. If the nexus existed for 18 years and bans 100 people a day (I think it's less than that), that would be 365*100*18=657k people banned over the lifetime of the nexus (again, I think it's less). Now, there will be repeat & reversed bans and not all accounts are active etc etc but the point is - the really unpleasant ones are a tiny, tiny fraction of the total userbase. 2

The vast majority of members will never even visit the forums....... 2
showler Posted February 8 Posted February 8 This isn't technically from the Warnings and Bans forum, but...look at this nonsense.ย The "person" came back and edited a spam link into the period at the end of their sentence.ย What is the point? ย
TheVampireDante Posted February 9 Posted February 9 That's a hell of an old tactic, didn't know anyone bothered trying that these days. As for why - there's always some that will see it's a link and click it blindly without reading any info that shows up. 1

Yah, old enough that I'd figure Google et al know about it and can de-prioritze such links in search engine rankings.ย Though yah, they might also be trying to get the occasional curious personย wondering why a period is linked, whose finger is itchy enough to click blindly without mousing over it to see where it goes.

I remember bookmarking posts that I thought would have a link added later and I was rarely wrong, they tended to stand out as not looking quite right. 1
