Timeorama
I already know we can't use the name Nemesis because that lord of the rings game copyrighted it. But there's a very popular Skyrim mod based on the mechanic. Basically, any time you die, you wake up elsewhere with some of your gear missing and a blurb about the guy who bested you. In order to clear the debuffs to your character, and get your s#*! back, you have to hunt down your Nemesis. That was my experience with the skyrim mod and it was fantastic. Maybe someone can implement something to that extent. When you're killed, create a persistent character with a bounty, give debuff conditions to the character that get cleared when the bounty dies. Maybe give them a few scenarios. After besting you the bandit started his own possee. Or rather he took your hat and he's spending your money at the closest saloon. Maybe he's laying low living rough by the river, or holed up in a cave. Maybe he's run cross country cause he knows you'll be looking for him. I like the idea that you could confront the Nemesis on occasion and set up a duel. Or just a good old fashioned shoot out. The other end of the spectrum should be considered as well. Say you didn't fully kill someone in a shootout. Heck, maybe you killed a man's brother. Or shot his pa. Now you have a customized bounty hunter looking for you, and this time it's personal. I like the idea of a one armed man getting the jump on you while you set up camp, or a man with a nasty scar confronting you while you take in a fine whiskey. There's already some basis for this with the widow woman confronting you if you've been Killin folk. I don't know what it takes but if anyone thinks they can code it, I'd love to see it.
