I miss weather occlusion...

Recommended Posts

In the days before s#*! Edition came out, I used Real Shelter to give me rain and snow occlusion. Yeah, it wasn't perfect. The transitional effect was annoying, and the occlusion only worked while you were standing under a shelter, but it was still better than having snow clip through your frostfall tent while a blizzard was going on.

Sadly, the thing doesn't work anymore. It doesn't support v3 of frostfall for one. It also won't work with the current version of TES5Edit; you have to downgrade it to version 3.1 to run it. Of course, even doing that the thing refuses to run for me. It would seem it just doesn't like Mod Organizer.

I hate that this thing has been abandoned. I always saw frostfall as required for the game, even if it isn't official content. Skyrim just isn't skyrim without it and Skytest Realistic Animals and Predators.

I don't get why nobody updates this thing, or releases a new equivalent mod. Seriously, why does anyone bother to mod s#*! edition anyway? Yeah, it comes with occlusion built in, but is it worth everything else? Force-installed garbage that breaks your game and prevents you from running the mods you want? Waiting for months on end for skse to get updated just so you can play for at most 3 days? Not being able to run any mods that weren't made within a month or two of the version of the game you're running? And at least for me, that thing was always more unstable than LE ever was on my system. I may still have crashes in LE, granted, but at least I can enter dragonsreach without a 100% guaranteed crash that persisted through complete reinstalls and didn't care if I didn't have so much as skse installed. Why is this unique to me even? How can it be? Why do I suffer from problems that nobody else does?

I just feel like I can't play the game the way I used to. I mean, waiting out a snow storm in your tent just isn't the same when the snow is coming fully into your tent. Am I not allowed anymore to play the game the way I want? s#*! edition is beyond dead to me. It seems though that even LE may as well be dead.

The only other way to get this effect in LE is through enb, which I can't run because apparently enb can't run on linux (at least the le version). Besides, my comp couldn't handle any enb in LE for some reason. I could run even the most intense enbs in s#*! edition alongside 4k parralax textures, but even the lightest of enbs with no textures at all drops my fps by 20? Besides, lets be real here enb rain always looked like s#*! even if you could get it to work. Honestly though, I'm so desperate I would be willing to give it a chance if I could run enb.

Is Skyrim just dead to me? I've played this game so many times through I'm sick of the vanilla content. I can't run the mods I want. I'm being forced to run LE instead of SE just because of bethesda (I was willing to tolerate the stability issues, though I did eventually get tired of not being able to start the main questline, which was locking me out of quite a few quest mods too surprisingly enough). Maybe I should just give up on skyrim. Its literally the last game I have though. If I give up skyrim, I literally have to give up gaming entirely. That's too much of a sacrifice. f*#@ the internet, f*#@ steam, f*#@ bethesda. I genuinely hope there's a special place in hell for everyone who ever tried to kill modding for this game. That may be dramatic, but look at all the harm they've done! Thousands upon thosuands of mods they've DESTROYED purely because they hate getting showed-up by unpaid amateurs. Instead of correcting their own act, they try to destroy anyone that makes them look bad. Wtf?

Sorry, I really wish I could get occlusion in LE again in some form. Is there no way to do that other than enb? Fml...
