InDarkestNight
I've had a long running issue with freezes/ctds increasing in frequency as a playthrough goes on. Strangely, they seem to only happen in the overworld. With a fresh character, I can literally run circles around the entire map without issue, but post level 10 I can barely move 10 feet without a crash. Looking up fast traveling (I don't know much about it strangely due to me rarely using it), I read on the this wiki this can cause glitches. Apparently, Skyrim doesn't update certain things until you use fast travel. This can make things like dragon spawns being far rarer than they should be. I have been noticing issues like this. Dragons take far longer than 5 in-game days to spawn. Also, once I dumped a bunch of animal hides on the ground to unburden myself. Several real days later I happened to return to that spot, and found everything was still there. Normally things like that despawn rather quickly. This got me thinking; perhaps my issue is me not using fast travel? Is this causing the overworld to get littered with stuff that takes far too long to despawn, thus explaining the crashes in the overworld? And before anyone mentions it, yes, fast traveling is more complicated than you would think. I tend to overuse it, fast traveling back and forth between the same location rapidly because I keep forgetting stuff. Also, traveling to the other side of the map isn't as much of a hassle when you don't have to walk there. Also, due to the crashes, I've also been overusing it as much as possible to minimize the amount of time I spend in the overworld. Seriously. This does also come with its own glitches, such as dragons spawning WAY too often. Could this be my problem? I did use to use fast travel when the game first came out, but after I started playing with needs mods I stopped doing that. I fast traveled once with frostfall and I think iNeed installed, and I dropped dead on arrival due to the amount of time passing, seriously. That's why I got used to walking everywhere. Besides, its more realistic that way anyway, and I also figured that fighting things I found along the roads would help avoid the leveling problem Oblivion had (I came straight from oblivion, so I was overly cautious with my first playthrough, I even spent days maybe a week pre-planning my build before I even booted up the game for the first time) I did make use of Touring Carriages for a time for immersion reasons, but due to the crashes I had to abandon it because you can't save while you're on the cart. It was always too much of a gamble seeing if I could make it to my destination or not. tldr: Does not using fast travel causes glitches? Could this explain the stability issues I've been having in the overworld that seem to increase as a playthrough continues? InDarkestNight
Well, that experiment accomplished nothing. Its near the beginning of my playthrough, I'm level 5, been using fast travelling, and I still froze. This was near Hillgrund's tomb btw. These crashes happen all over the map without any pattern. Outside of the cell borders near the cities, I never seem to crash in the same place. Am I not allowed to play the game in peace? How am I supposed to play the game when I'm constantly having to make saves and being forced to replay what I've already done?
