Ekvilibrist
So, I’m currently playing through FFIX on PS1 with my seven-year-old daughter. It’s her first RPG, and since she doesn’t speak English I’m translating all the dialogue. Basically, it’s half storybook-reading and half gaming. And we’re having an absolute blast. we’re using the OG “assign controllers to different characters in Battle Control”-co-op-mode and it works great. I have control over the healers to save our ass and she’s going wild with the offensive characters I was really looking forward to moving on to FFVI, but the ps1 port is really rough. So I really wanted to play the pixel remasters with her and at least go through the ones that had co op. But it turns out they never added the Battle Control function. I heard that the PRs will take input from two controllers, at least on PlayStation, but that it doesn’t block either one, so you'd have to communicate and keep track of who’s who and when to use your controllers. This would probably be fairly difficult with a seven-year-old. If someone could mod-in the battle control config and let you assign characters to controllers again, that would be a huge boon for the PRs imo. And technically, I assume, if it works for one game, maybe it could even be added to the ones in the series that never had it originally? It’s a lesser known feature, but every time it’s brought up, lots of people who’ve used it come out and say it’s a great way to play the games.
